Default The greatness of second-hand books!

Thanks to the arrival of online second-hand book retail, there is now a whole new market for second hand books worth no more than a couple of pounds. Add in shipping costs which can be cost-free, or a minimal fee of 2.88 postage and you would have books that look great lined up on your bookshelves.

Even charity shops such as Oxfam and Cancer Research are thriving because customers prefer books to e-books.Many sold in charity shops are hardcovers, and you might be lucky to find an author signed 1st edition. Now wouldn't that be super?

One of my friends loves magazines of the Royal Family, yet paid only a small amount for a pile of their full colour magazines. Even mags such as National Geographic and clean glossy mags as published by Hearst Publications. Examples: Country Living
Women's Health
Car and Driver
House Beautiful, to name but a few, and the customer paying as little as just 20p.

There is no longer that stigma of buying second-hand these days. Also consider that your buying second-hand is a clever way of recycling. It's also lovely that second-hand retailers such as World of Books offer free shipping costs to repeat buyers, or offer small shipping costs.

So now there is a global community of book lovers. Glorious! What's not to love?

Indeed I agree. I have always been partial to buying 2nd handbooks for the last few years. I have a charity book store about 2o mils fro me that I visit every month and come away with 2 or three books. In fact, I suspect by the new year I will need to fix up yet another bookshelf.

I've bought a large amount of my books from a local second hand bookshop, proceeds support the public library. I've also bought many online. You can find a lot of good stuff in little shops like that, perfectly good books from popular authors, and lots of hidden treasures. Used books are great

I go to a craft group on a Monday. As an avid reader of books this lady loaned me a large bag of books, mostly from second hand shops. As I bring finished books back we discuss it and said what we did or didn't like about it. It has been lovely to get to know a wide range of authors that I havent been aware of and their works. She has been loaning out these books to other members of the craft group. Other people are sharing how they found the books. Reading these book brings and enrichment to our lives in many ways.

Yesterday I ordered 7 second-hand hardcover books (including their colourful dust jackets) of the lovely cook and food writer Nigel Slater. Every one of these books are in "Very good condition", and they arrived thios morning before we went house hunting. I already have three of Nigel's books. Now I have (almost) his entire collection.

They're going to look great in our kitchen cookbook shelves.

I've only bought one second-hand book because I should have bought a new one when it first came out, not remember years later!

As an aviation enthusiast, it was QF32. The story of Qantas flight 32, the explosion, then survival of all passengers and crew. Much of the dust on the page edges brushed off.

Dining room is full of various commercial aviation books and magazines. Have catalogued and offered some on the website where I write a blog. Obtained from the son of an enthusiast who's sadly passed. Will be trying local hospice bookshop and air cadets next.

Unusual hobby for a female, but certainly provides a good talking point when meeting strangers, especially when out spotting

I order used graphic novels from a website called thriftbooks. It is awesome - I get most for about 5 bucks and they have a rewards program where you can earn a free book. I have done this several times.
