Hi all,
I'm currently taking mirtazipine and lamatrogine for BPD. When I was diagnosed the psychiatrist suggested am anti psychotic as well but I declined as it sounded to say. Eighteen months later and I'm thinking the anti psychotic might actually help with some symptoms. Does anyone have any experience of this? I don't feel comfortable going back to the GP to ask about it - the psychiatrist saw me once (after a 3 year wait), diagnosed me, referred me back to GP with a note to say he didn't need to see me again. Does anyone have any feedback on whether an anti psychotic might help with some symptoms, or any experience of asking for it after a while? __________________ Living with BPD, CPTSD, Depression, Anxiety/Panic, Phobias, Addiction, Obsessive behaviour. |

I have a diagnosis of BPD as well as bipolar disorder. I take an antipsychotic and I find that it really does help me with my anxiety. I tried tapering down last summer and I found i was much more anxious and agitated with half a dose. You might find it helpful.

Thanks Mobius, I've been thinking about it for awhile, it would mostly be for the hallucinations rather the anxiety, but if it helps with the anxiety also that would be good. Not sure i call just ask the doctor, but worth a try.

Hi there.
I hope you are doing well, and have some more clarity on this since posting. From what I understand, antipsychotics can have mood stabilizing benefits (similar to meds such as lamotrigine), as well as anti-anxiety effects. This would be better understood by your doctor, but that is what I’ve been told by my psychiatrist. Antipsychotic meds can used to manage anxiety, mood fluctuations and even sleep problems. Your doctor would be able to explain which options better suit particular symptom(s). I would imagine that in BPD, these meds would be useful in managing mood changes, but treatment thereof would probably be best with both a doctor and an experienced therapist on board. Best of luck, __________________ Tic-Tac |

I have BPD and I do take meds, but the meds don't really help at all with the BPD symptoms.
