I’m not sure really. I know my father had an awful,up bringing too..
But they didn’t seem to realise children had feelings somehow. We were there for all the wrong reasons to them, or so it seems to me... Unfortunately I can’t ask questions as they have both passed away now.... |

My parents cared more about money and appearances and what other members of the community thought of us than about whether we were happy or not.They were homophobes and racist and they especially my father thought he owned us.He was angry,controlling,even violent,it was a domestic violence situation where we either obeyed or were punished with his fists,we walked on eggshells when he was in the house,he could explode at you unexpectedly for his own reasons.I was not my self in his presence and he inhibited me,I was always afraid to show myself so I was withdrawn and passive even when he was not around.Out and about there were community spies everywhere so we could not be seen to for example talk to boys,you couldn't trust anyone or feel safe.My family were strict christians with all the bigoted misinterpretations of the bible that christians make.My parents were wrong about everything and they were also emotionally unavailable and judgemental.
