For as long as I can remember I’ve always felt horrible with a need for attention and love but I had a good childhood. My dad worked a lot and didn’t express much emotion but never felt he didn’t love me. My mom paid a little more attention to my sister than me but I was still loved and had a good childhood.

Possible trigger:
so I understand why I’m a bit messed up now but most of these feelings that I have have been majority of my life. I’m confused as to why

Hello Fixerupper: I see this is your first post here on PC. So... welcome to Psych Central.

Since you posted this in the CEN forum, I presume CEN is a subject that is of interest to you. So here are links to 6 articles, from Psych Central's archives, on the subject. The last of these links is to a blog on the subject:

Childhood Emotional Neglect: The Fatal Flaw

The 2 Types Of Childhood Emotional Neglect: Active and Passive

7 Signs You Grew Up With Childhood Emotional Neglect

6 Things Adults With Childhood Emotional Neglect Need to be Happy

How Childhood Emotional Neglect Affects Relationships

And then, since you mentioned your father's suicide, here's a link to a listing of articles on the subject of grief & loss along with links to 3 additional articles on grief following suicide:

https://psychcentral.com/grief/

https://psychcentral.com/lib/grief-a...r-jack-jordan/

I hope you find PC to be of benefit.
