My entire life I’ve struggled with paranoia. It’s like I’m always scared of something. When I was kid, I was scared of my parents running and leaving me and my sister (they never showed any behavior indicative to wanting to do that or even being capable of doing that) but I would spend the whole day in school worried sick that my parents have abandoned him and aren’t going to come and pick me up. I even use to check on my mum when she was in her room just to make sure she didn’t crawl out of the window. Nowadays, I don’t worry about that but I’m still constantly worried that something might happen that will take my family away from me. Whenever they go out without me, I always have this nagging feeling that something bad might happen to them in the back of my head. I can usually ignore it but sometimes it gets so bad that I would literally have a breakdown. Outside of my family, I am constantly worried that my friends and classmates are scheming something behind my back (not that they’re planning something sinister just that they’re playing with me or pranking me) even when they haven’t done anything that would justify that suspicion. Even years into a friendship with someone, I would still feel like they’re plotting against or that they’re spying on me. Talking about spying, for the last three years I’ve been convinced that someone has hacked my phone and is spying on me as we speak. I know it sounds crazy but I just can’t get the idea out of my head. I don’t know what to do anymore, all the energy I spend on these paranoid thoughts is draining me and keeping me from being able to live my life. I don’t know why I’m like these and I don’t know what to do to get these thoughts under control.

Hello MellGray: I see this is your first post here on PC. So... welcome to Psych Central.

We here on PC cannot offer mental health diagnoses. Plus I'm not a mental health professional. So I can't really suggest what may be going on with you. The best thing to do may be to see a mental health professional, perhaps a psychologist or a mental health therapist who can help you to delve into what this is about & what you can do to resolve it.

In the meantime one thing you can do, here on PC, is to take some of the quizzes & tests that are on offer. There's a link to them in the banner at the top of the page. However here's another link as well:

Psychological Quizzes and Tests

Here's a link to an article, from Psych Central's archives, that may be of interest:

6 Questions to Ask Yourself When Fear Starts Peeking Around the Corner

I hope you find PC to be of benefit.
