Are leaving birthday wishes in profiles ever a problem here? Would anyone get upset at me over a happy birthday message?

idk if I'm overthinking

I think it depends. Did the person tell you their birthday in private or did they post it publicly? If the latter, it's probably ok to leave them a message on their profile. If they told you in private and you post it publicly like that then it could be an issue for sure. Most people probably won't care though.

I would be delighted to be wished a happy birthday. Since my birthday falls on 12/28 it usually gets ignored, more or less; lost in the holidays.

If it's a concern, I'd do it by private message - just to be safe.

Laurie - here's a bunch of belated/future 'Happy Birthdays!' to help cover those holiday losses

I don't think it's a problem for most people. Though I do know Jehovah's Witnesses don't like to celebrate birthdays.

It was public at the bottom of the page where it announces the birthdays on the forum, if this makes sense.

I'd be very happy if someone wished me happy birthday. It's a very hard day for me, so any kindness would help. BTW it's 9/16!
