The site is safe. See if you can add it to an approved list of websites. Some antivirus software programs have that option.

Unfortunately sometimes malware and virus companies get things wrong, and this is one of those cases. I'd email them to let them know that this site is safe, or to let us know what specifically they are concerned about. Sometimes members link to an image hosting server for an image, and that server may sometimes to be hosting unsafe things. But we usually catch those issues, and/or your web browser will alert you to those rare times when it occurs. (As long as you don't visit the actual server, nothing bad will happen to you just from an image.)

The noise may be from the chat bar, which you can disable or turn off the noise when you visit our site.
You'd have to contact your virus scanner provider to ask them what you can do about visiting the site in a way that you don't get that warning. Usually there's a way to tell the software to turn off warnings to trusted sites. The site is safe, despite what your software is misleadingly telling you. We run daily hardware and software scans internally and do other sorts of testing on a regular basis to ensure it is so. We've been doing this for over two decades, so if you can't trust me when I tell you this, I'm not sure what else to say... sorry? DocJohn __________________ Don't throw away your shot. |

I too use Kaspersky (Internet Security) and it's never given me a warning. I also have Malwarebytes Pro and it has never given a warning either. I trust both programs, the site is clean and safe.

I've been a member on PC for over 5 years now. I'm a computer geek. I tend to be very paranoid online (in a non-medical way) for good reason! I'm glad you're being wary of the risks online. However, I don't see anything alarming here. The certificates are up-to-date, the team is great, the site uses https (mixed content, due to people using foreign images), the site is, to my knowledge, not flagged as a malicious or otherwise nefarious website. It even has a Wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psych_Central I have a very long list of unsafe or ad-related domains (380,000+ at the moment) and occasionally update that with new suspect domains; I process very long lists I get from various places online, and then programmatically add flagged domains to my system's domain blocking list. I use an addon for Firefox called NoScript which helps me know which content comes from where; I've seen nothing wrong at all with what goes on in Psych Central. This site is well known and even recommended by some professionals. I was a moderator with the Community Support Team a little while ago and was happy to see a team that cares and works hard to make sure this site is safe. I was also a chat moderator for a while. I'm just a Community Liaison now, which I find just casual enough to not stress me out over any duties. xD Hopefully, with all this in mind, it'll give you peace of mind, but failing that, how about the 400,000+ other Psych Central members? Before I moved over to Linux, I also used Kaspersky, for 2 or 3 years in-fact; I loved it. If you're worried, I'd suggest loading Windows in Safe Mode and running a full scan with Kaspersky. I would also suggest looking into a freely-available (paid versions are optional) anti-malware program I also used for years called Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, found here: https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/thankyou/ The nut-shell is that you are okay here, so long as the server-side stuff is administered well, which I'm sure is. Welcome to Psych Central! This would indicate yes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaspersky_Lab __________________ { Kein Teufel }

You use Windows 10?
If you do use Windows 10 and you aren't running a business from your PC, handling thousands of dollars of financial information, have a bitcoin wallet with a lot of money in bitcoins, or have any type of top secret classified information, than the built in antivirus is generally good enough. Also, security depends a lot on how you use your system. Don't download files from untrusted sources and don't browse shady sites or do shady things and you should be good. If you absolutely require a paid antivirus software though for whatever reason, I agree bitdefender is a good choice. Also see if your internet service provider offers premium antivirus. I use cox and I know they offer Mcaffe for free which is a bit better than the windows built in antivirus. |
