There are different shortcuts for accents depending on the operating system that you usually use (Windows or not-Windows), the layout your keyboard uses habitually (e.g. US, UK English, or another language), and the size of your keyboard (laptop/ full size, & etc).
I've added a French keyboard permanently to my Windows language options. I can't make any of the shortcut options work on my small keyboard, but adding a second keyboard language is simple and gives me all the accents that I might need. Seems to work for e-mails, documents, internet and everything. Another option which might suit you uses the US International Keyboard as a base: Find and add the US International keyboard. This has dead-key functionality on accent characters such as `'^~ etc. So you type 'e which gives you é and so forth. It's quick, intuitive, doesn't require memorisation of codes or particular keys. The only problem is the way it is nested away. User Settings > Time and Language > Region and Language, install English United States, click on this and select Options, then add United-States International Qwerty as the input method, then remove the standard US keyboard (if you're not using it). Switch between keyboards any time with Windows key + Space. Hope that's useful and not my usual bag of hot air ! __________________ *"Fierce <-> Reality"* oh god I am struggling today, help me to remember how to stay connected and human! remember: the nut shell against human predators and my own fear! |

Bonjour. Quelqu'un peut-il me dire comment entrer un accent accentué lorsque je tape mes articles? Merci beaucoup... right click on what you want translated to another language. then select translate a pop down window will give you a list of languages select the language you want. my list of translations have been customized for what languages I use most in my home, work and online life. but when most browsers already come equipped with translation abilities. if using the translation temporary just open a second window and pick one window to stay in the normal language and the other to use the translations. when done close out the window that has the translations in. ie when I am on psych central I have two windows open. one psych central forums are in english and the second I have selected the translations option. when done I close out the translations and english versions. |

Merci beaucoup to both of you excellent souls.
And Saidso, do I understand that when you speak of adding keyboards, you’re speaking of adding virtual keyboards? Not actual hardware? |

I have a setting feature on my phone that gives me the option to use a different language keyboard. I have français et/y español. I find that I use these more frequently than I ever imagined that I would.
If I hold down on the EN... Then the setting screen appears. If using your phone, of course. Capture+_2019-04-18-19-41-53.jpgCapture+_2019-04-18-19-42-22.jpg |

I'm running Windows 7 and have the program Character Map pinned to my taskbar. I have it set to use the Unicode character set. First you select the character you want, and then copy it. You can then paste it into any text.
A shortcut for é is to hold down the ALT key and press the digits 0233 on the number pad on the right side of the keyboard. When you take your finger off the ALT key, the character should appear. (The shortcut numbers for characters are also shown in the bottom right-hand corner of Character Map: "Keystroke: Alt+0233.") If you use Firefox, there's an extension called abcTajpu that allows you to right-click and select characters from lots of languages. |

User Settings > Time and Language > Region and Language, install whatever language you desire. You get a little language icon on the Windows bottom bar that you click to change languages. It looks like what Healingme4me describes on her phone. I like the idea of having a translation window open too thank you Amanda Louise. __________________ *"Fierce <-> Reality"* oh god I am struggling today, help me to remember how to stay connected and human! remember: the nut shell against human predators and my own fear! |
