Hi,
Recently, for some unknown reason the screen on my mobile phone is acting as it would if I were trying to view a desktop site from a mobile phone. It never did that before. It has only been doing it the past week or so .. I've been trying to figure it out on my own bc I saw an old post on the web about this problem when you were testing something but back then you had an option in settings I no longer see now. I figure perhaps this has to do with the move to the new domain n right now I just keep enlarging my screen each time I navigate somewhere, but I thought you should know so perhaps you can look into it as you complete the move. Thanks for all you do n good luck completing this move! ❤ __________________ Life is not measured by the amount of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away |

Is the layout different now? Or has it just become too big for your screen?

It looks like it would if I were trying to view a the desktop site.
The header is wider than the rest of the page. And the letters on the page are so small you need a magnifying glass to see them unless you enlarge the screen on the phone. Prior to this - the site "fit the phone" .. now it does not. __________________ Life is not measured by the amount of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away |

I don't know what you've already tried, so forgive me if I'm going over old ground.
A possible culprit is your browser forgetting some setting for the site or remembering some setting that no longer applies properly. So, try clearing your browser cache and other site data (obviously don't lose your passwords). Then do a forced close/restart of the browser ... which isn't always easy or obvious on some phones. To give you an idea ... I view this site at an enlarged zoom setting because I find the default text to be small and larger text is so much easier on the eyes. The browser remembers that on a per-site basis. Or it did, until they changed the domain name today. I had to re-save my password and reset the zoom setting this morning. There can be far more detailed and subtle settings, which is why you should clear your browser cache as a first effort at resolving an issue. Also, check your "skin"/"style"/"theme". The default for new accounts recently changed to "Responsive_Blue" from "Psych Central". Did you change yours? Some less common device and browser combinations might have issues (mine has a few). You could try the different themes and see if that helps. |

My theme has been the same as it has always been since like the 2nd week I was here. The rest I did yes. This is just truly a random thing that happened. It was fine. Then it logged me out. Logged back in immediately n it was messed up. I then tried shutting off n restarting phone - same thing. Tried scanning phone n restart. Same thing. Tried cleaning all history of browser - same thing. Found on internet where it said to deselect an option for "mobile" - except that option no longer existd. Has not fixed since it happened n everything I tried resulted in absolutely no results.

Hmm ... that's not encouraging. It's possible some little tweak on the site caused the change, or some little update to your phone's software. Honestly, there's so many combinations out there and corner cases for all the bits and pieces in the software chain ....
Unless the site maintainers are able to recognize the issue and fix it, my only real advice at this point is to at least try the new Responsive_Blue theme. It's supposed to be more mobile device friendly and might display a bit better on your phone. Worth a try. Of course you could always try another web browser, but for most people that's fairly disruptive. |

I had been using this theme even when I returned.. but yes I did try the blue responsive to see if it made it go away n no it did not. I truly think it has something to do with them switching domains bc it didn't do this til after they posted about the domain switch upcoming n now even after the domain switch it is still messed up. I guess it is what it is since nobody seems to care, but whatever.

Why do you think

I am using responsive_blue and it works fine on my mobile phone. What type of phone are you using? Perhaps someone else will come through with another idea. |

Because that is only a member who happens to be on my friends list. Did anybody else say anything? No.

It feels like the expectation is that we have a staff of people just waiting to help fix issues posted here. Unfortunately, the reality is that we don't. We log technical issues into our bug database, but they go to the back of the line. Which means it could be a week or a month to try and troubleshoot the find the fix for it.
Mobile platforms are especially difficult to troubleshoot because there are literally 10,000+ variants in the wild between hardware device, OS platform, OS platform version, and browser type, and browser version. In short, they are super-difficult to fix because we don't have access to those 10,000+ variants. Even if we just limited ourselves to 100 of the most popular ones, we still don't have access to all of them. What we do try and do is to look at the problems in the platforms and mobile devices (using emulators) the best we can. But we can't do this everytime someone posts to this forums, because our development team is actually working on the queue. So when they get to the bug a person has posted about, I come back here with whatever report I can. Sometimes we can fix it, and sometimes we can't, because it's beyond our current capabilities. If another member takes it upon themselves to try and help with an issue, I am super-grateful. Take it in the spirit offered -- they are only trying to help. Sorry that's probably not the answer you were looking for, but trying to explain why we can't attend to every bug every time something is posted here. __________________ Don't throw away your shot. |

It's just nice to have a response of some sort at all - otherwise I don't see a point in having a forum that is meant to communicate issues to the tech team (especially when one of the rules for this forum is to not post something that has already been addressed - which is generally what tech teams on other sites I go to say when they set up a forum or board or etc to post issues but also have an option of sending in requests)
But honestly - if that's not the purpose here, then you seem to have a bunch of people who are really unaware of the workings of the programming trying to resolve the issues. I guess if that's ok with you - it's fine, bc it's your site. But now that you say the mobile platforms are too hard to keep up with - I suppose that means mobile users need to depend upon other mobile users then. Again, I suppose that's alright if it's ok with you. __________________ Life is not measured by the amount of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away |

Sorry, I respond when I can. I apologize that my responses are not quick enough for some.
I did not say that mobile platforms "are too hard to keep up with." I said they are difficult to troubleshoot technical issues. That's why we offer the Tapatalk app, since that's maintained by a separate company and is always working. While that solution may not work for everyone's needs, it does for the majority of our users. Thanks. __________________ Don't throw away your shot. |

The staff who maintain Psych Central aren't members of the forum. Honestly, it's not a part of their job description nor is it a part of their responsibilities.
We run the community as a free public service. But thank you for your feedback. I'll let you know when and if I have any updates on your technical issue. __________________ Don't throw away your shot. |

We've loaded the forums on an Android emulator that is running the same OS as your device. They appear fine with no display issues. So because our load is brand-new with no old stuff cached, we're wondering if maybe your browser might be displaying cached data.
Have you tried clearing your device's cache storage? Here's one guide to doing so: Android Nougat : Clear cache data - GadgetDetail Let me know if that helps any. __________________ Don't throw away your shot. |

I have cleared the cached data, yes.
If it's my device, it's my device. I am not angry when I say that - I am accepting of it. To completely answer your question .. I know the first "quick fixes" are to clear cookies and/or restart phone (or computer, tablet, etc - whatever you have). As far as the issues I have reported to you - this aesthic one, no matter what I do .. it doesnt fix - but it isn't on every post either. As far as the chat ones, the glitch when chatting outside the room only occurs if I try to scroll back even a little bit ... and relogging helps, but then i end up freezing up in chat or forums the rest of the night every few minutes. The glitch while in the rooms (cant talk to more than one person) sometimes bleeds over to outside the rooms - but if I navigate away from chat n come back (when outside the rooms) it generally fixes it (not always) - inside the rooms only relogging each time more than one person tries to pm me fixes it. You don't really need to worry though about the glitches inside the rooms bc I don't think I will be back in them. Last time I.was I had too bad an experience. I appreciate you trying. I do. Thank you for trying. __________________ Life is not measured by the amount of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away |

I will say this much - in the past couple days since I posted.. most of the aesthetic problem has gone away. But it is still there. Its an aesthetic problem though so of no real bad concern I guess.
