Question Jun 08, 2019 at 11:40 AM
  #1
I was just wondering if the purpose of the Ignore function has changed? I used to think it prevented the member from being able to post on one's threads. Also prevents them from sending PMs. Well, there's someone I added to my Ignore list who keeps posting on my threads. I don't understand how that is possible. Or did I misunderstand how the Ignore function works? I think it's a really helpful function.

Moderators, is this a specific issue I could have you check on or did I misunderstand?

Aah! The plot thickens! Haha. Thank you for sharing that Unaluna. I was starting to think I was losing my mind. Though that's not to say that I now have proof that I'm not losing my mind

I wonder if it would be acceptable to the moderators if I send a member a polite PM to ask them to refrain from joining my threads since the Ignore feature has a hole in it? Or would that go against guidelines? Thoughts?

If the posts from the ignored user is harmless, ignoring the user would suffice imo. If it's not, there's always the report function.

I suppose you could politely tell them to stop posting in your threads. If you simply ignore them on your threads, they might eventually come to the realization. The former option is quicker. But my intuition is that directly confronting them is more likely to elicit... emotionally charged responses. It might be politely worded, but in the end you're still telling them to stop contriburing ro your threads.

Or.. they could ask you "why am i on your ignore list? ;( " and you explain yourself, to which they respond, "I will change my ways!! :* and everyone lives happily ever after

Deliberately circumventing the ignore function is not permitted. Feel free to report any such posts.

Thank you for responding Atisketatasket. I wouldn't speculate as to whether it is deliberate or not. I don't know. But yes, I could click report. I try not to bother you folks with the report fxn if there's something I am missing because I know you're really busy. Have a wonderful day

Thanks Iliovar. Now that Unaluna pointed out what probably happened with Tapatalk and Atisketatasket has responded, I will not contact the member directly. Though I do not agree with your point that politely drawing a line with someone is the same as being confrontational. There is a difference between being proactive and being aggressive. Though on a faceless online forum, everything is quite different from the offline world which is why I asked the question.

And we don't tell people why they are on Ignore lists because there is no need. Different strokes for different folks. It's not a punishment or judgment. DocJohn and the mods have been very clear about that

I actually agree, just couldn't think of the word at the moment, and used incorrect vocabulary.

Just curious, but if you did go through with what you initially thought of doing, and the person was wondering why they were ignored, you wouldn't respond?
