I'm asking because I have people on ignore, and I'd like to start a thread in social. Can you start threads in social at all if you have people on ignore? What about updates on your own life in social or starting a thread wishing everyone a great day? Thank you. Ptak

From our Community Guidelines:

"updates on your own life in social" This would be fine. ''starting a thread wishing everyone a great day" No, this would be considered a Community thread. I would be happy to start a thread for you. Just PM me the title. Happy Friday! |

This is unclear to me. What exactly is a community thread. Thank you for the question.

Let me clarify, since I'm not sure the examples bluekoi gave were illustrative of what we consider to be a "community thread."
A community thread is a thread where the poster is encouraging participation by all members. For instance, many of our forums have "Check in" threads or "Name the one thing that you're grateful for today." These are open, general threads where a member is not expressing the need for emotional support, but instead is encouraging social conversation and connection via sharing of something personal with each other. In our community, ongoing, lengthy community threads are often denoted with a # sign at the end, signifying their continuation from a previous, older thread (like #3). We close these lengthy, ongoing community threads after 1,000 posts to help keep our database tidy & happy. *Most* threads that *most* members post are not community threads. Most members post asking questions or seeking support for a specific issue or concern going on in their lives. Asking other members for their input or advice on a specific issue is not a community thread. Community threads, on the other hand, are more social in nature, and generally are not seeking or offering emotional or mental health support. Hope that helps clarify the issue. If you're in doubt as to whether something qualifies as a community thread, simply PM a moderator or admin to ask. We're happy to assist you. (As a reminder, if you have other members on Ignore, we ask that you not start community threads. Instead, as a moderator to start the thread on your behalf via PM.) __________________ Don't throw away your shot. |

Report the thread so the community support team can take a look at the thread and (a) determine if it is indeed what we consider a community thread and (b) if so, whether it needs to be restarted by a moderator to allow all to post to it.
Keep in mind that posing a question to the community in and of itself doesn't make something automatically a community thread. __________________ Don't throw away your shot. |

This seems to.contradict what you previously said though. If someone posts a Q&A thread and invites everyone to participate, is that not a community thread. If someone starts a thread to ask people to contribute to journaling daily with them, is that not a community thread? I'm not talking about asking a support relare question. These are check in type threads just not labeled as such AND inviting everyone to join in and not asking for any specific support.

Can't you start big threads for all if you have people on ignore? I have someone on ignore that I barely know who it is and this is "for life" and told by your staff that I must have this person on ignore. Now I can't start certain threads?

For example, if I say, "I'm really struggling in my relationship and would like some tips on how you make your relationship work, please share!" This is not a community thread, even though it's asking for input from the members of the community.
If you are on a forced Ignore with other members (e.g., a community support team member has directed you to place someone on your ignore list), you cannot start community threads. If you'd like to change that, you need to demonstrate that you will no longer have negative interactions with the member you are on a forced ignore with. __________________ Don't throw away your shot. |

My integration thread is focused on me and my integration journey. those on my ignore list were not able to post in my thread. someone that did post got me thinking about how the dissociative boards do not have an integration board for talking about integration issues. I made a thread to discuss whether the dissociative boards should or could have an integration thread. because the "expectation" of this thread was its for the whole dissociative community to discuss it I had to either contact a moderator to have the moderator make that thread so that even those on my ignore list that were part of the dissociative boards could take part and have their say or remove everyone from my ignore list. I chose to remove everyone from my ignore list but kept a list of who was on it so that I would not post to them even though they were posting with in the community wide thread of whether or not we all wanted an integration board for the dissociative disorders section. my point is theres a difference between making threads that will be support oriented from your friends and others about ..........you and your problem .........versus a community wide thread that everyone in that section is going to be adding their input to. my integration thread was about me and my problems the discussing an integration board was a community wide thread. after the integration board thread was not being discussed anymore because the decision was made by Doc John to not have one at this time I placed those that were removed from my ignore list back on it. so for example if that discussion comes up again someone else will need to start their own thread on it because I have people on ignore, or we have the moderator restart it with their name instead. why because its not focused on my problems its a community wide issue for the dissociative boards. hope that has helped to explain the difference and how to do it. |

How do I even show that when I barely know who it is and when I have no threads in common with that person?
This is something from ages ago that been following me since. I kind of remember being accused of making a thread questioning this person, but I didn't know who it was and how it could be interpreted that way. It was a general reminder about members when they give advice, to remember we're all over the world with different treatment options. I don't know how it ever was decided this was directed at a stranger to me that I had to put on ignore. I never put people on ignore by myself. That isn't how I work. I put people on mental ignore if they bother me. __________________ |

Jimi -- and other members -- if you have a specific situation you'd like to resolve regarding this issue, please PM any admin for followup. We're happy to revisit and reconsider past decisions if things have changed. Thanks.
