This is an important note to ANY member who's changed but never verified their new email address in our system. (If you've never updated your email address in your account, you can safely ignore this note.)

When you change your email address in your community account with us, the system will send you an automated email to confirm your new email address. It does this so people don't use or put in fake email addresses, so if we need to contact you outside of the forums (due to an account issue, for instance), there's a way to do so.

If you do not verify your new email address by clicking on the link in the email, the system puts you in a group of members called "users awaiting email confirmation."

Recently we've updated our maintenance system to automatically ban users who don't verify their email addresses within 7 days. We did this primarily to affect NEW users, and to address a problem with spam registrations done by automated bots attempting to register and spam our community.

However this new automatic ban will also eventually impact OLD members who've never clicked on that verification link in the email they were sent.

If that happens to you and you become accidentally banned, you can reach out us directly to have this fixed: community@psychcentral.com

We just need your username and we'll put you back into the active member group with no further questions asked.

Sorry that in an effort to keep our community safe and secure, some members may experience an issue.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

um some of us have been on here for at least 10 years so question how do we know whether our email address has been verified that many years ago? is our profile marked with the words verified?

This only applies to you if you've changed your email address in your account with us. If you haven't changed your email address with us, there's nothing you need do.

If you have changed your email address and you've clicked on the verification link in the email sent to the new email address you have on file with us, there's nothing you need do.

If you have changed your email address and you've NOT clicked on any link, then you may be at risk of this automated filter, and you should contact us at the email address listed in the top post.

Thanks.
