My son spent time (one year) for deployment in an area that didn't have a lot of danger. Yet he talks about killing a person, and all this horrific stuff. I'm pretty darn sure these things didn't take place. He skyped us often and never seemed any different that any other time.
So is this attention he is seeking? Does he really think these things happened?? He REALLY tells a big story. After leaving there he was back in the US and on another base. He got drinking and went into a program to help him. He would share these stories with the therapist there so we received a phone call from them telling us these things didn't take place. I thought he stopped telling these stories but heard recently that he is still telling these stories. What area of the forums can I see if I can find more information?? thanks! |

I'm afraid I'm not knowledgeable enough, with regard to psychological conditions, to really advise you accurately regarding which forums, here on PC, would be appropriate to what is happening with your son. From what you wrote, it sounds as though he is struggling with delusions. And the particular forum that delusions fall under (according to the listing in the index) is the Schizophrenia and Psychosis forum. Here's a link:
https://forums.psychcentral.com/schi...nia-psychosis/ My recollection is that you may have already found, or been directed to, the Schizoaffective Disorder forum. However here's a link to that one too: https://forums.psychcentral.com/schi...tive-disorder/ Also... here are links to articles, from PsychCentral's archives, on the subject of delusions: https://psychcentral.com/disorders/d...rder-symptoms/ https://psychcentral.com/disorders/d...der-treatment/ https://blogs.psychcentral.com/careg...is-delusional/ https://blogs.psychcentral.com/careg...dium=popular17 https://blogs.psychcentral.com/careg...dium=popular17 https://blogs.psychcentral.com/careg...dium=popular17 https://blogs.psychcentral.com/careg...dium=popular17 https://blogs.psychcentral.com/careg...dium=popular17 My best wishes to you... __________________ "I may be older but I am not wise / I'm still a child's grown-up disguise / and I never can tell you what you want to know / You will find out as you go." Also the military have special places where they allow conversations, calls, video, skyping with friends and family. these places are on purpose in safe locations where family and friends are not suddenly going to witness the horrors that the military have to deal with. they keep the areas where the one on deployment is doing their videoing and conversing with family devoid of the violence. its hard enough on family and friends to have a loved one deployed they dont need to witness the violence that the deployed is helping to control. my point is maybe your son does know and has had to kill. to answer your question my opinion is no he is not saying all this for attention and such. if he's done time in the military branches of any kind its very likely he saw and went through what he did. |

Contact the VA immediately, or his former CO. He needs therapy and so do you for dealing with it. PTSd
