Oh boy. I guess I'm staging a sort of intervention in a way. Things have GOT to change with this family. I called my aunt and tried to express to her how badly I need help. I tried to express how badly my grandmother needs help. I tried to get her to understand that I have to get out of here and I really am moving so we all need to step up and help my grandmother because I can't do this alone.

I know that my grandmother is going to be FURIOUS when she hears about what I'm about to do, but things have to stop. Things have to change.

So, I'm going to talk to my niece's mother early tomorrow morning and tell her my concerns. I wholeheartedly believe that my grandmother needs to go ahead and give custody back to my niece's mom a.s.a.p. She does NOT need to try to get my niece through another school year.

First of all, after major surgery she needs to relax and recover. She will be even more dependent on me to help her raise my niece and I can't handle that (as much as I love them both). Between the two of them I just may end up back in the hospital.

Secondly, the more I stand firm and set boundaries with my grandmother the more she will flip out like she always does. I am praying that my niece is not around to see us arguing all the time. She's already seen my grandmother get in my face. No more please. Also, to make a long story short...my grandmother is just not the best person to raise my niece anymore. It's time for her to be with her mother now.

Ugh...thanks for letting me vent. I'm sorry this is so long, but I just had to get this out, and I'm so happy I have safe places to do that in.

Thank you so much! I was able to talk my niece's mother as well *** some family about the situation. They are not only on board, but they support my decision. Now, we just need to be firm and move forward.

I'm learning that my grandmother has not been so truthful about the situation here. I think that's partly on purpose and partly due to cognitive decline. Also, it's great how my family has been responding. I'm quite surprised, but I thank God for that!

We'll see what happens as this continues in the coming weeks.
