So when i have an episode (panic attack, anxiety, cant sleep). My go to is music, listing to radio. This helped during childhood during my period of abuse. Low and behold, that became my coping mechanism as an adult. So if i have a panic attack i put on my headphones and turn to music to help change my mood. You do have to be careful though. If i said “pink elephants”, you think of pink elephants. The same is true with music. So i make it a point to listen to music that I don’t consider depressing. “Runaway” by Real McCoy for me is a danger song. It is a trigger. As a child i would listen to this to deal with abuse. Now if it come on the radio, it causes all those memories to flood back in. But as long as i avoid this and songs like it, I’m fine. I’m a big oldies fan: Four Tops, Supremes and Stevie Wonder are my favorites.

Those are some of my favorites as well. I think music is very healing, but could be triggering as well. Stay away from the radio where you have no control what's playing and just stick to the music that makes you feel happy and alive.

As a long-term CPTSD sufferer, music has been one of the few things that calms my mind. I especially find comfort listening to Loreena McKennit and her world/new age/Celtic/mystical music. I have attached a sample below.
