I am about to turn 30 and have been consciously battling with CPTSD (due to childhood) for about 5 years. I have a degree but have never progressed beyond entry level admin. A relationship broke down about 1 and half years ago down in part because of my CPTSD and I find it extremely difficult to social and make new friends. I am currently physically limited and I am recovering from an injury set to take about 8 months and I find connecting with people extremly hard in general.

Nothing much has changed for me in terms of progress or triggers or building a sense of stability. I trip myself up a lot and self sabtoge. I just can't see this changing and the older i get the more inept i feel. the more immature I seem and the increasingly behind i become. I don't really social much and barely experience life. I just can't do another decade of this, its a life that is such a waste and pointless. I just can't see myself recovering.

What kind of professional help are you getting? Therapy? Medication? Are you in 12 step groups?

Have you read anything by Pete Walker?
Personally, I am not a fan of ''medication'' unless absolutely essential.

I'm also wondering how therapy is going (feel free to ignore my nosey question)

I am recieving therapy at the moment but just recently changed therapist and only 3 weeks in.
It is going ok with this one. I just doubt the ability to recover but I suppose this is something I have to bring up with my therapist

How about accept ptsd is something you learn to live with. Medication is not something one is a fan of or not. You either see a psychiatrist or you don’t. Ptsd is a physical condition in the physical brain , medication treats the physical brain.

What helps me is knowing that I'm not the only one who has gone through this. I know "you're not alone" can sound cliche, but there are many other people who have endured similar things to what you have or worse. It doesn't mean by any extent that you have to fully recover and be happy-go-lucky normal, because everyone copes in different ways and CPTSD is a lifelong condition. You have CPTSD, you'll never be "normal", but that's okay.


What makes you happy? What do you genuinely enjoy doing? What do you want to do and what do you want in life? You don't need to share your answers but...think about it and pursue it.

Yeah. I was being polite. Some of us are allergic to the meds....

Meds don't work for everyone. It is a personal decision to manage health versus side effects and allergies.

Sorry to hear you're struggling so. I can understand those feelings all too well. There have been huge changes in the understanding of, and treatment for, PTSD over the years. I hope you find something that works for you. For me, after years of kinda sorta helped but not really therapy (from social workers up to p-docs) - and multiple efforts with various meds, I found a med that helps me a lot (except for "the PTSD stuff") - which helped me hold on until I found a therapist who could help me with that. There is hope. I'm living proof of it.
