I have been trying to break out of social isolation for years. I feel like this coming year has to be the year.
I am so isolated I have started to live...in what feels like a different atmosphere. I don't even see the purpose in talking anymore. How can I get back??? I don't know. It is like I drifted off into unknown territory. It is like being lost in space. How do I get back??? I have tried to convince my one friend and family the need for help but everyone pretty much ignores me. I __________________ |

Been in a similar situation, I think the best thing to do is to try to fill this gap online first. Then try to find people likeminded nearby. Hope it helps, I'm here to listen if you want to talk to me.

I have read comments by others that have done Meetup that Meetups attract a lot of weird people, especially weird guys looking for dates. I looked into Meetups in my area and a lot of activities demanded some kind of fee for a particular activity. So I have no interest in that. I wouldn't be interested in walking groups. Maybe hiking...but it isn't the right season for that. Maybe this summer I will participate in some hiking activities. Although once again people have commented that although hiking and walking are nice activities one doesn't really meet people doing those activities. They are mostly just one-time entertainment. I have done hiking groups in the past and found this to be true. __________________ |

Thanks for this. I do spend a lot of time online - but frankly I suspect it is not very healthy. Maybe a lot of people are doing this. For instance, if I go out to a coffee shop everyone is sitting alone but glued to their electronic device. It is kind of sad. People are walking around with earbuds in their ears talking aloud into thin air, it appears. Okay, maybe I am the weird one but it distresses me. I don't carry my phone everywhere I go because I refuse to be addicted that way...and I don't bring my laptop to coffee shops. For God's Sake....I do remember when people used to talk to one another at bus stops, in coffee shops etc. I know it is "the norm" for people to be constantly glued to their electronic devices but I am beginning to find it very, very creepy. __________________ |

What I am trying to say, is to get out there and live. It will help you cope better. You new planet will be one of letting go and adventure.

I don't feel any sense of adventure. I have extreme financial problems and am just trying to keep off the streets. I am isolated, and my community is not very friendly. I don't have enough money to move to be close to family and old friends. I wasn't born in the west and I hate the west. Too much sky. Too much space. It is a foreign landscape. More like a moonscape. If it was as easy as letting go and embracing adventure wouldn't I be doing that? I am not 25 years old, for God's sake. I had plenty of freaking adventure when I was young. I traveled halfway around the world and back. I have lived in every corner of this country...and in other countries as well. I am older and the world is disappointing. People are disappointing. Politically this country is going straight to hell. We are tear-gassing babies at the border who are trying to climb iron walls to find a safe place to live. Adventure? An over-rated concept. Selfish. __________________ |

Maybe a sense of adventure or perhaps just bravery to break out of long standing social isolation?
