Do you ever feel disgusted with yourself over an impulsive decision you made?
Sometimes I will do things that are really impulsive or that I don't really think of at the time and later I really dwell on. I will feel really depressed over a mistake that really shouldn't carry that much weight. An example of this would be that my wife and I had a payday a few days ago. Well, for various reasons (like this one), I am not trusted with our finances. This is something that was my idea and I have discussed and agreed on with my wife. Well, she gave me some money to buy some clothes. I have put on some weight and need to buy pants that fit. I took most of the money and bought an expensive pair of sneakers. What I am looking for is less insight on the example and more insight on acting on these impulsive decisions and non-violent intrusive thoughts. I tend to get really frustrated with myself because of this and I will dwell on it and feel depressed for days. I know that I made a mistake. The question is what do I do with it now? I tend to be very hard on myself and beat myself up into oblivion. __________________ Recovering from the past. Growing in the present. Planting seeds for the future. If I put myself in your shoes... no pun intended... I would not have wanted to buy pants either. It’s frustrating to gain weight and have to buy new clothes as a result. Good quality shoes are something we always need and were probably easy for you to justify in the moment. Can you return them? If not, maybe start a new walking or running routine now? Or ramp up the old routine if you already have one? I tend to make impulsive buys quite a bit so I’m working on this at the moment. I’m making myself really think before I buy something. It’s more fun to just buy stuff though. |
