basically it means that someone accepts their feelings and understands why they feel that way.
example:

someone was abused by their parents and they decided themselves that they didn't want to be in contact with them anymore because of obvious reasons

someone else might say, well, your feelings are valid. I can understand why you feel that way

that's how I've always looked at it

Thank you so much for making this thread, ExplodingSun56! I agree with what all the others have already wisely said better than I ever could! It's just a way to say that we understand how you feel and why you'd feel that way, and that you don't have to feel ashamed because of it! Feelings are just what they are. They're feelings! We don't always have a lot of control over them! I believe that's what people mean when they say your feelings are vali. That's just my opinion though! I may be completely wrong! I believe the others are right as well though! Sending many hugs to you, ExplodingSun56! You're a strong, wonderful person! Please remember that!

To me it shows that it is reasonable and understandable that you have those feelings. You are not wrong that they exist.

An example of someone invalidating your feelings would be you saying 'My feet are now bleeding from wearing these shoes' Then the person you are walking with says 'Well you chose to wear them, please keep up'
