Has anyone heard of emdr therapy? Because that's probably what I'm gonna start doing with my therapist. It's about dealing with stuff from the past and I want to be able to remember what happened to me and why I'm having a lot of emotional stress all the time.

Yes, I am trying this today for the first time. I was surprised my internist had never even heard of it.

I have never tried, ExplodingSun56, so unfortunately I don't have a lot of advice to give to you I'm really happy that all the wonderful people in this thread were able to give you all of this great advice though! I'd suggest to listen to them if you can and want! They always give such great advice to everyone! I'm sure your therapist will also be able to explain everything to you if you ask him/her what EMDR Therapy may be! Please keep us updated and let us know how it goes and if it works out for you! I'm sure it will be helpful for many other people as well! Please let us know! Thank you so much for making this thread! Thank you so much everyone for taking part in it! Sending many hugs to you, ExplodingSun56, and to EVERYONE, especially ALL OF YOU here on PC!

My therapist talked a little about it last time I was there. She'll explain more about it next time I go. I did it for a little bit and I didn't do anything with my eyes but instead she had me put on these headphones that did like this beep in one ear and then the other ear and then kept going back and forth. You can choose to have it go slow or a little faster. You do whatever speed feels comfortable to you and then she would ask me some questions while that was going on. She said it was a newer form of therapy. I find it interesting so I'm gonna do it.

I recently tried it at a walk-in counseling center with the social worker there who is getting her social work license. Either she was terrible or I'm immune to it's benefits b/c it did absolutely nothing beneficial for me at all. It just annoyed the hell out of me.
