So I am on vacation. I rarely get a vacation so you might think this is a good thing.

However, I feel overwhelmed and miserable.

First, I started the week on track. I got off to a strong start getting a lot of stuff done. But...

1. I had a plumber come out and move my washer and dyer hook ups. But I am not really happy with the job. He put the hook ups in a place I was not expecting and I don't think even makes a lot of sense. They are now in a corner in my closet instead of directly behind where the washer and dryer goes. Also, he used the line that goes to the outside spigot. That has to be turned off during the winter or it will freeze. So I had to call him back (what he didn't notice the cut off?) and he cut it off much closer to the outside. Now I am going to get to worry all winter that it will freeze. He put the lines on the most outside wall of the basement. So imho, that makes it easy to be a place where it will freeze. Cost $300.

Here is question... why is it.. when I call out a service person they always just do what they want to do? I was upstairs. Why didn't he just tell me he was going to do that. I clearly told him where I wanted them.

2. I am having an electrician out today to move that. To me it seemed like an easy job. But the electrician came out yesterday and I never heard so many problems in my life. EVER. He wants to install the hook up directly behind the waste pipe with a metal pipe to protect the electrical lines. Cost $500. I do not want the hook up in that location but according to this guy... I have no choice. I do not understand as the space isn't finished. It would seem easy to do. But I have to get it done with this guy because I don't have more time to shop around.

3. I went out and got a sliding screen door for my back patio. It has been a nightmare. On the one hand I am proud of myself for getting it installed by myself. However, getting it there was pure hell. I bought a screen door on Sunday and it was difficult getting it home... I have an SUV and I could hardly get it in. But I got it home.. and it didn't fit. I tried and tried. I finally decided to get someone form task rabbit to install it. And I could not believe when he peppered me with questions the entire week. What door is it? What is the length? I mean the point of getting someone from task rabbit is to HELP you. Not make you their employee. I figured if I was going to spend that time answering the questions.. i might as well take the door back myself. I did so.. and I got a new door. AND I couldn't get it on either. Then I measured it against the old door and it was actually smaller. So I gave it one or two more tries and got it on. Huzzah.

I was however, utterly exhausted.

So next day I got up and decided to finish the job. I went to take the old latch off the door way so I could close the door. Unfortunately...one of the screws will NOT come out. I spent my entire day yesterday trying and getting special tools. The door will not shut completely until I get the screw out.

Ok I give up with that for a moment.

I am on day 4 of 5 and I haven't gotten much done.. my home is a complete disaster area... I have purchased a lot of stuff that has been basically useless... and now I need to return it all... AND... I spent money like it was going out of style.

These projects are basically the last that need to be done. Once I get them done the monkey will be off my back. My place will be 100% complete. But I have only gotten 1/4th of the place done.

Add to that I feel like my cat is driving me nuts. I am starting to honestly feel that I am not capable of having a pet. I suspect the issue is that my cat it not used to me being home. So he is acting up. He also isn't getting his normal unfettered 8 hours of sleep during the day. So he seems sick and is acting up because his routine is disturbed. But any symptoms are so mild as that I can't tell if he has an issue or is just acting up because of lack of sleep. He constantly keeps licking his chops... but he gets plenty of water. You might think it is his teeth but he eats food fine so... On another thread you might have noticed I thought he had hurt his leg. But the day after he was limping he was 100% better. I couldn't even tell anything was wrong. It seems to me that when he doesn't get his sleep he acts up in protest.

Finally he gets asthma meds. I got myself a prescription and was happy but when I went to use it... it was rejected. I buy my meds from Canada. Because they are prohibitive here. $360 for 1 inhaler. But the vet put on the prescription... US APPROVED DRUGS ONLY. Why? Why would you do that? So I e-mailed her to say I needed another prescription. She is out of the office until October? Ugh, I can't wait that long. So I have to buy his meds from a New Zealand website that doesn't require a prescription. I swear to god I should just do that going forward. It is a legit website I have consulted with other cat owners.

I hate the FDA and I hate the conspiracy to charge insane prices and for doctors to FORCE you to pay those prices.

To sum up... every single thing I have attempted this week has been a bust and taken a zillion times more work than I expected.

It seems like you're going through a lot, Emily Fox Seaton. I'm so sorry Hang in there. I'm sure you'll get your work done one step at the time. I understand it's stressful. Take it easy and just do what you can. It can REALLY stressful! I'm so sorry that they haven't been listening to you. That's not fair. You've paid them to do a specific job after all. As for your cat, I have no idea what the problem may be Hopefully the Meds will work for him. Bring him to your veterinarian if he keeps acting up. I hope things will adjust soon for you. Sending many safe, warm hugs to you, Emily Fox Seaton, and to ALL the people you Love and who TRULY Love you and Accept you for who you TRULY are!

Thank you Micky. I asked this question on a cat board and a lot of people think it is due to the disturbance. Apparently licking chops is a symptom of anxiety. So my electrician is done and that is it for the week. For the rest of today and tomorrow we are going to rest. {{}}

Yeah, having several new people in the house and all the noise from work being done is going to upset most cats. I'm glad you and he have some time to rest.

I feel your pain about the house stuff. We took delivery of our house in February and have had challenges as far as the things we want to do, both by ourselves and outside workmen. It gets frustrating when things don't come out the way you planned. At least you are in the home stretch, it sounds. Ahh, the "joys" of home ownership!!

Thanks. I bought the place in 2014 and at that time I thought it was move in ready. I guess it was but you change one thing and something else needs to be done. Both my exterior doors were cheap and never seemed to fit right. I decided NOT to put any latch on the screen door at all. It isn't necessary and I tried doing it and it got stuck. Just better not to put it on at all. I hope your house is coming along. I think this is going to be my last home.

I am kind of disappointed that I got very little done. I had a list of about 25 things to do, just like last year, and I got about 8 done.

The good news is that as of September I will be accruing 5 weeks of vacation as opposed to 3. So I will take another week off in September and then also October.
