I feel guilty and disappointed myself on days like today when I am still in my pajamas at lunchtime, watching TV. The sun is shining, it's pretty warm for November, I got about 5 hours of sleep last night (or rather this morning!), yet I have no real desire to get up and go out. I'm retired, so I don't "have" to, but I feel like I should be doing "better" -- be doing something.

So, am I lazy? Or am I expecting too much of myself when I think that sitting around watching TV is not good enough? I went out yesterday and the day before; I also did some housework. But taking a day "off" ... I don't know ...

No need to feel guilty, do what you feel like doing.

I think part of it is that the only place to get outdoors here is all pavement and concrete and steel and glass. There is almost no green space, and the little there is doesn't get any sunlight. It is convenient for grocery shopping but the grocery store is not a peaceful place nor is the route to and from it.
I am a city person born and bred but as soon as I left home at 18 I discovered the countryside and now it is like I am starved of it, starved for trees and grass and other creatures besides just other humans even though I am human.
I am old, broke, and retired, have no car in a country where people need cars to get anywhere but their own small locale, e.g., to green space, and what green spaces there are aren't within walking distance and aren't very safe, certainly not peaceful.
I am also losing all my friends right now. We e-mail each other or "Like" stuff on FB, but when I put something important out there, asking a question about something that matters to me, or posting a thought, they all disappear so I wonder if we really are friends.
Or maybe I expect too much of them too, and too much of friendship.
But every time I start to feel too old and tired to bother, something in me starts to think there must be something better somewhere, and some sort of communication.
Sometimes I think my cat has the best way of dealing with it. She sleeps a lot. Usually close to me. ^. .^

I understand what you mean! I can relate. I do about the same. My advice, if you want it, would be to take things one step at the time. Do something each day. Take some steps every time you can. I realize it is hard, especially if there isn't any green around you. Is there any place that is relatively close to you that has it or that you'd like to go to in, uh? Perhaps you can start from there! I know it's hard. Try your best! That's ALWAYS enough since that's all we humans can do! I am sure that little by little you'll feel more active and you'll be able to go out of the house more as well. Let us know how it goes! Sending many safe, warm hugs to BOTH you, @Seafarer, your Family, your Friends and ALL of your Loved Ones, ok?! Please NEVER EVER give up Hope no matter what happens, ok?! Always, ALWAYS try your best, ok?! Keep fighting and keep rocking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, OK?!

I think pyjama days are okay now and then. They can be therapeutic even.

If you are feeling sad however and lacking motivation most days then that is different.

I am wondering if there are ways you can get your nature fix in the city? Are there public parks you can get to? What about small scale gardening? Growing something on your window ledge even?

I think many city dwellers share your longing for a greener space. Nature calms, connects and invigorates us.

I have 3 cactic on one windowsill. I've had them for several years now and two of them are growing nubs and arms all the time. The third one doesn't appear to grow at all, but it is a different variety and last year it did bloom briefly, which was nice.
I'm making myself get back into my music, playing again. I enjoy it once I get started.
Thank you for your replies.

I could have written the exact same words. PM me anytime if you'd like to talk.
