And I literally didn't know what to say or how to react. All I could do was tell her to please take good care of herself and ask her about treatment. She sarcastically said "what treatment?" I feel absolutely horrible and scared for her. She is nearly 50 years old and therefore is in a vulnerable age bracket. Her health is generally pretty good, but still, I am very worried.

And I feel badly because I don't think I said the right things to her. I was out of words, and she is one of my oldest and closest college friends.

Oh no! How is she feeling now? Some people have light symptoms and some are really struggling. Is she home or in a hospital? Unless she has some underlining health issues, nearly 50 is quite young and isn’t really a risk age. It starts with 60. Of course it’s different if she has other issues. I hope she recovers very soon.

I know! It's worrisome. She is feeling pretty terrible. She is at home, not in the hospital. She took a test, because she has all the symptoms, and is waiting the test results but already knows it's a positive test result. She is in fact a doctor herself, so she knows already. Plus her doctor sent her to get a test done. I've heard that people our age are very susceptible. But I don't have great fear of her actually dying from this..... although of course the fear crossed my mind. I am quickly dismissing that possibility.

She was actually cleaning her household toilets yesterday while sick.

I am about 99% sure I had the corona virus the first week of January and I am 49. I survived it just fine. At the time I didn't even know anything was wrong. But I did know there was something much more serious about this cold. I do not think she is in a vulnerable age bracket. According to World-o-meter the 40-49 age bracket has a 0.04% mortality rate.

Oh wow... my husband also believes that both of us may have had this around Jan-Feb but I have no clue if that;s even true. Good to hear the mortality rate for our age group is that low!!! Thanks!

I just apologized to her for seemingly to not be altogether there. I told her both my husband and I are dealing with depression and anxiety and that I am not myself. I hope that helps somewhat, because I know I am not responding in the most helpful ways to her right now.

Sorry to hear about your friend, and almost 50 isn’t too bad of an age to get it unless have other illnesses such as poorly controlled diabetes or autoimmune disease. Age by itself is a high risk if above ag3 65 or above 70 Yrs old.

Thank you. As far as I know, she has been relatively healthy.
