My best friend of 14 years has been diagnosed with advanced cancer. I’m having a hard time coping with this. This past year has been full of grief for me. I’ve been consumed by it and I’ve had to drag myself along for a while.
I feel guilty that I’ve spent so much time grieving over other things and I didn’t spend as much time snuggling my little dog as I should have. I was finally starting to pull myself out of my grief over issues with my daughter and the stress at my work. I was finally looking forward to things. I was ready to move on and focus on living life to its fullest... as best I can. Always love those who love you and show up in your life every day to be there for you.... no matter what that is the most important thing I think. |

I had to go through this myself and felt the same way. Truth is that even if you had cuddled with your little dog more, you would still experience this impending loss because you loved him.

Thank you for your thread. You’re right. Many times we take for granted that our love ones are gonna be there with us forever and we blame ourselves for the wasted time once they went off.
I see it as a defence mechanism, it’s a lie from our brain. If we didn’t have it at least at a low level, we couldn’t cope with many daily routines in our lives. I can picture myself how much you miss your doggie, I have two pieces of heaven too and one of them is old so, I can understand your feelings. Sure you took care of him a lot but never it’s enough. Doggies live for such a few time compare with us. I accompany you in your loss and thanks again for your thread. __________________ Social Anxiety and Depression. Cluster C traits. I was so sorry to learn of your little dog's illness when you replied to my post regarding the loss of our beloved Schnoodle. You mentioned having had your pet for 14 years. That's how long we had Joey. (My eyes are tearing up just writing this.) He's been gone over a week now & I still think I see him every so often such as when I turn a corner in our home. Last night I dreamt he curled up alongside my head in bed.
Perhaps you're already familiar with this. But, just in case not, here's a link to my favorite grief-&-loss-related article in PC's archives: What My Dog Taught Me about Grief and Loss My best wishes to you & your family... __________________ "I may be older but I am not wise / I'm still a child's grown-up disguise / and I never can tell you what you want to know / You will find out as you go." Thank you so much. I do feel your pain. I know how terribly sad it is. We lost another fur baby four years ago and it was devastating. We grieved and time lessens the intensity of the pain. These little babies love us more than most people do. I like to think they stay with us even though they aren’t physically here. They are in our hearts and we never forget the lessons in life that we learn from them. I hope you find peace in time. |
