You spend a great deal of life in the sunlight. It's natural and nearly unavoidable. To counter the damaging rays that can cause skin cancer, you put on sunscreen (which is also sometimes a cause of certain cancers, funny how that works). Regardless, you tried to counter it with the tools you had available. And you still get melanoma. Could you have stopped it? Maybe, but what's the point of pondering this question when it needs to be treated and taken care of? Why ponder instead of fighting it?
Why can't people see that mental illness is the same? You can work hard every day of your life to prevent it, but sometimes it shows up anyway. It doesn't care that you tried. It doesn't care about anything. Like cancer, it is an illness. An illness that does have the possibility of ending your life. It is just as serious. The reason I'm talking about this is to open a dialogue on this subject. I've had several people say, "Well it's not like I have cancer like you did." That's bs. It's bs because it's still serious, just as serious, and important to treat. People need to quit minimizing their problems and invalidating their struggles. Your pain and suffering is just as valid as anyone else's. Hugs to all here. __________________ "Give him his freedom and he'll remember his humanity." |

Sadly, even the professionals don't take mental illnesses seriously

I don't think they can see it because they cant relate to it. It is a form of a cancer in my thinking, it's not curable for many of us. Treatment resistant or recurring, feeling like shyte most of my life, I get what you're saying so leigheas

This is a really good way to put this. We can eat healthily, work out, drink plenty water and do yoga and it can still creep up on you and turn your life upside down. We don't want it, never asked for it, but our body just turns against us and we have to try and live with the consequences.

Mental health hospital Mental health counselor here Abuse shelter Soup kitchens Buses Best thing I can tell you .. be vocal - and keep being vocal til ppl get tired of hearing you, then do it some more. Why? Because its at that point they know what you are saying so well they can recite it back to you - and once that happens, you know they have knowledge. If they have knowledge, they no longer have an excuse. ❤ __________________ Life is not measured by the amount of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away |

Great post Só leigheas. Very eloquent thoughts...
Some think MI is a choice, no-one would choose to feel the way we do. Keeping negative feelings in, is unhealthy but most don't want to listen to how we feel. Society offers little support and understanding. Thank goodness we all have each other to talk to and listen to our pain. |
