Would anyone like to share something nice that you did for someone else? Big or small. Could be something you did for a friend, family member, neighbor, stranger, anyone. I think this can help us with our self-esteem...reminding ourselves of our goodness and to remember that there are good folks out there in the world doing good things
One day I saw an elderly woman struggling to reach something on the shelf at a store. I offered to help and then she confided how she had recently fallen and gotten hurt outside her home. I stood and listened for a few minutes. She looked relieved, thanked me, and then went on her way. Small connections can sometimes mean a lot. |

I gave money to UNICEF. It felt good. I don't know if they are a reliable institute and that my money will be put to good use. When I think about it, I feel like my money wont make a real difference for those poor children.

I donated a bit to two support groups, including the Haven on Discord (affiliated with this forum, I believe) and the SOS group in Second Life (which is having a holiday fundraiser right now).
(Not sure if plugs are allowed here, but these groups might be of interest to anyone on this forum. They are run by good people and offer support via text and voice chat.) |

On my second trip to the dollar store on Christmas Eve, the couple in front of me were buying a lot of last minute items including stocking stuffers. She ran out of money before she could but everything so I had the cashier just put the rest on my tab.
PS: Hopefullylost - you are a bright spot in my day |

I was out for dinner one eve...feeling a bit raggedy after a draining day at work. I noticed a woman sitting next to me at the bar seemed really sad (I sometimes eat at the bar to chat with the friendly bartender). I made some small talk with the woman who looked as though something was weighing heavily on her shoulders. She confided that she was feeling overwhelmed because her mother was dying and her family wasn't dealing with it well. I offered a few tips I've learned from my job but mostly just listened quietly with empathy. I wanted to pay her tab but it was already closed out. Turned out that her mother had the same first name as me (my real name). Sometimes I think strange little coincidences like that could be nudges from the Universe...reminding us that we are exactly where we are supposed to be at that particular moment. I couldn't take her pain away but I hope the listening helped during a very sad time in her life

A friend was really struggling...called me around midnight one night to talk about things which were bothering her. An hour later she still didn't sound good to me at all. I was worried so I went to her home and talked with her until she was ready to go to sleep. I slept on her sofa so she'd know someone was there all night. The next day she was able to go to work. Sometimes a person just needs someone to be near.

Thanks for this thread! You are so uplifting!
I went out to eat with my mom the other day (before Christmas). Our waiter was outstanding and I asked him to get his manager. I told his manager in front of him how superlative his service was. Turns out it was his first day on the job. I also left a huge tip. |

I helped a senior woman carry her wheely cart up 3 flights of stairs at the train station today. I was already running late to meet up with my mother which is another story.
The only thing and this could be my paranoid mind playing up, but I feel unworthy in front of others that look at me like I'm going to take a bow. On another note. And the inner workings of me head. I expect a reward in the form of a simple but meaningful thanks. There, I said it. Next time help Haha. *stupidflanders* |

When I was a little girl I found this purse full of money. My friends wanted me to keep it but I figured out who it belonged to and returned it . at first the girl who it belonged to took it and looked very worried or suspicious but she came back a few minutes later and thanked me .

When we moved house when I was a teen my mum offered me the big room and my sister the tiny box room but I swapped with her and let her have the big room

Was out for dinner one eve. I noticed that the waitress seemed tired or stressed. I left her a large tip and wrote 'pay it forward' on the tab. Hope she had a better eve at work after that. And maybe there was a nice ripple effect.

Also, when I needed financial help during cancer treatment only local organizations helped me. This is just mine experience. |

I was working with a patient who was physically very ill and depressed. She had her head down while we talked and mentioned that it was her birthday and she was really missing home. I gathered a group of colleagues and we sang Happy Birthday to her with gusto. Other patients joined in and she smiled. That was the first time I had ever seen her smile.

A friend of mine lives down the street from her parents. Late one night, right after her mom's diagnosis of cancer, her kids were at her parents and they had a fire. Luckly all made it out but she got awakened at 12 AM with that news. After everyone was put to bed and everyone was gone she called me at 2 AM. It was fine it was a weekend. We talked for 2 hours and I comforted her.
When people are sick at work and need leave time I generally contribute leave time to them. |

My mother had always wanted to go to Utah to see Arches and Canyonlands but her husband has bad alzheimers and she wouldnt leave him. So I took them both and wheeled him around in a wheelchair and drove them all over and she had a great time.

I give to 6 different charities on a monthly basis. Charities that mean something to me, that I hand picked. It's a significant amount but funny thing is, I don't even miss it and feel that I get more in return, somehow. My husband (who is very spiritual) truly believes that when you give, you get back ten fold. He will give a Girl Scout money for cookies, but not take the cookies!
At my job, if a charity or church buys something from us, I will often pay for it (which is how one of the charities got on my list). Once, hubby and I were eating out and I noticed an older couple with, I assume, their grandson. They prayed before they ate, something you don't see often, and for some reason, it just really touched me. When we went to pay for our meal, I asked their waitress for their bill and payed it. Acts of kindness, big or small, are beneficial for the giver and the receiver. But, I actually think it benefits the giver the most, emotionally. |
