I was eating Krystal’s in the parking lot with my mom and saw a woman in an old station wagon get out, go to the back seat and punch her little boy square in the face with a closed fist. Oh, the things I wanted to do to that woman! I’m afraid I did threaten some really bad things. I blocked her in and called the cops to come make a report. I made a statement to the police and they arrested her. I think about that sweet little boy from time to time.

I did fundraising for a nonprofit organization I support by requesting donations from businesses for their silent auction.

I don’t play pathetic ignoring games. I don’t play passive aggressive playground bully games. I genuinely support others. Even those I find “triggering” sometimes. Thank you to all the wonderful people here on pc

When my younger son was 4-5 months old, we were visiting my brother in San Francisco. At that time, people were very afraid of those who were HIV positive, they would practically cross the street to avoid them. We went out to breakfast with one of my brother's friends, who was HIV positive. I was digging for something in the diaper bag and handed the baby to this man. As first he looked astonished and then happy because I had trusted him with my child and did not shun him.

Cleared snow off someone's driveway and helped them get their car unstuck.

Last week, helped an old drunk man on a crutch get to his feet after he'd lost his balance and fallen down. Poor old guy.

Wow! What a powerful story Monticello! A small action likely had a positive impact on that man for years to come. I have cared for HIV+ folks at work. It is so important that they have connection and support. I read that HIV- folks used to wear masks if they met a HIV+ patient in the hospital, fearing that they would become infected. Ironic given that the person posing the immediate risk is the HIV- person carrying opportunistic pathogens which can seriously affect the health of an HIV+ person. Your story reminded me of an anecdote shared by someone living with HIV...a continuing ed course I recently completed. She mentioned how great she felt when her sister continued to split an order of fries with her...even sharing the ketchup. It had always been their habit when they went to lunch together. She assumed her sister wouldn't want to do that post-diagnosis. Your story warmed my heart. Thank you for sharing! |

A friend of mine entered a giveaway to win some products. She didn't win, so I bought the products for her and had them shipped to her house.
I participated in a gift swap once. One lady got cheated out of her gift. I bought her a few things so she wouldn't be too disappointed. A friend of mine was living with an abusive roommate. They were too afraid to go into the kitchen to cook, so I ordered food for them and had it delivered. I helped a friend move once. Every year, I participate in a Secret Santa event for poor children. I always ask for 2 wish lists to try and get more kids happy. The person who organizes it always has a hard time getting enough wishes fulfilled, so I try to take 2 lists. |

How kind you are, KD1980!
I must admit that I used my son to comfort someone on more than one occasion as a baby. About the same time, when he was 5 months old, I took him to a conference with me as I was still nursing. I sat in the back of the room so I could make a quick exit if I needed to. Another man sat down next to me and after awhile asked if he could hold the baby. I let him, since he was sitting next to me. After he gave the baby back another man came up to him and asked him how he was doing. He said he had been having a very difficult time lately. I was glad my son gave him a little respite from that. Interestingly enough, my son has grown into a very empathetic young man, so I guess these experiences didn't warp him. |
