Just curious - when I hear people talk about depression, I hear more about low mood, etc. I of course know that everyone experience it differently, but I am just wanting to know everyone's personal experiences with an agitated depression (not mixed state bipolar). I ask because I experience it every year in February which is hardest time for me (seasonal) and I just feel on edge. I manage it well, but most of my friends have experienced much more of a vegetative and sad, hopeless depression. Mine has those features, but I can feel my heart racing and just feel triggered by everything.
Thanks for being willing to sharing your experiences. |

Sometimes when I am depressed I get more irritable and snap at people and pets, etc. Is that what you mean? Have you tried light therapy for seasonal affective disorder?

Well... I don't really know much of anything about all of these mental health diagnoses that get discussed here on PC. (Sometimes I think that's not necessarily a bad thing either.) But I always score high on tests for depression. Yet I've never been a person who couldn't get out of bed. I do often feel sad & hopeless. But I still get up every day, get cleaned up, & do what needs to be done. Many years ago, my father would always say: "You're not required to like it. You're just required to do it." And I've taken that as my mantra. I have also always struggled with quite a lot of anxiety along with anger issues. A racing heart & feeling triggered by everything are familiar to me. So if all of that qualifies as agitated depression then I guess you can count me in!

Depression is different for everyone, pandoram3. For some people it can definitely be more agitated and they can feel more anxious and irritated. So I'd say what you're experiencing is actually pretty normal. I'm so sorry you have to go through this. Please don't give up. I hope you'll feel better soon. Is there anything we can do to help you? Please let us know. Remember that we're here for you to support you. Feel free to PM me anytime. Let me know if I can do something for you. Wish you good luck! Let us know how it goes. I'm so sorry you have to deal with this

No, I've not been diagnosed with agitated depression as such but it does sound awful, pandoram3. It does sound something like my depression though where in the depth of the darkened, horrible state, I just need to be left alone and if anyone tries to reach out or contact me, knock at the door etc., I have nothing, I won't - or can't - respond, and I feel angry for them trying. Go away! - will be all I can think of. Yes, it's difficult. It's like being cut off from life.
Keep pushing forward, pandoram3 and thank you, as well, for your thread. |
