In the last two days, my depression has been very bad. I don't even have appetite to eat, and it's a real struggle to do anything. Why do I have to live like this? It's not like my life is much better other days. I live in this constant psychological anguish. Is it my fault that I feel this way? Do I like pain? Or am I lazy to do anything? I don't know

Depression can be and is awful. I am sorry you feel so badly. I battle it too and some days are tough. Have you tried meds?

I haven't. I don't think medications can change anything. My whole situation (my social, professional, and romantic life) is depressing.

Hi and welcome to PC, Cold Soul,

I'd have to say, no, it's not your fault you feel this way at all. Experts say it's more to do with brain chemistry and the workings of the mind, etc.

Have you spoken with your doctor or a mental health professional about what you're going through? They may be able to help you, one on one, to address your situation.

But all the same, it's very good to have you here Cold Soul. Hang in there please, keep reaching out, and again - welcome.

Thanks. When I reach out to others in real life I receive one of two reactions: either they don't believe me because they think my has been perfect to have depression, or they would say or imply I am just being lazy and play victim.

I believe many things have led to my depression, from genetic makeup, to childhood trauma, to social anxiety that has led to total social isolation and being unemployed.

I haven't seen a professional about depression, but I had before about ADHD, and anxiety. I may consider this option as my life is not progressing in any direction, although I had bad side effects from taking medications before.

I'm so sorry you're struggling, Cold Soul It's definitely not your fault. Please don't give up. Depression sucks. I'm so sorry you're going through all of this. Do you see a therapist? Maybe that could help. You could learn new ways to cope with your feelings. I'm so sorry, I know it's hard. Please don't give up. I'm glad that you're here and that you're reaching out to us. That means that you do want to get better! Be proud of yourself for that. I know things seem pretty bad right now, but trust me when I say that they can get better. Try to hang on. You can do this! You're strong, I know that. I believe in you. I hope you'll feel better soon. Is there anything we can do to help you? Please let us know. Remember that we're here for you if you need it. Feel free to PM me anytime. Let me know if I can do something to help you. I'm so sorry you have to deal with this

You're welcome.

Yes, it's always tricky reaching out, and a lot of people on this forum have been in that same boat of feeling minimized & dismissed as well - yes, it's disparaging. I'm the same - very reluctant to share my anxiety & depression struggles with people - for the same reasons as you - but I do find ways of getting my message across in a very generalized way now. I don't worry about giving people the finer details anymore, unless it's a doctor or therapist.

But on this site with people who understand, your feelings are completely valid and real - I find validation helpful to my spirit, reassuring. And I relate to your social isolation as well, so you're not alone there Cold Soul.

Talking to a therapist can be beneficial. They may suggest ways of moving forward through your issues, so perhaps consider that as an option, Cold Soul.
