I don't have to

- Look hot to impress girls
- Look cool to make friends
- Buy a motorcycle to befriend people who do not need me
- Be afraid of failure, because... life is succeeding even against the odds of failure.
- Pay attention to the fact that there's literally no one who can completely support me.
- Pay attention to the fact that I am a 'lesser' human being
- Tell myself I am lonely and all such things which I actually am.

What can be done about those things anyway? What will thinking about wounds and bad luck do about it?

Well... I don't know. Now, toward the end of my life & looking back, I think what I should have perhaps done was to settle on one thing I would have been interested in pursuing & then to have pursued it. (Isn't hindsight always 20/20?)

Friends come & friends go. Looks fade with time. Stuff... wears out or simply gets tossed aside as time goes by. What other people think is their problem. Satisfaction in life, it seems to me from this vantage point, may simply be in doing some thing well. It doesn't have to be something big or extravagant. In fact, to some extent, I think it may well be best if it's not. It just needs to be something the person who's doing it values.

On one of our local TV station news programs, they do a weekly feature on people in our area who are doing something that is unique in some way or another. A while back there was a piece on an older man who's been building a wooden sailboat in his barn for 30 years. And it's still not done yet! During the segment he said he doesn't even care if he lives long enough to finish it. It was the day-to-day building of it that was important to him. That, it seems to me, is the way to live one's life.

I completely agree Skeezyks. I created this thread after I realized how petty those things are when it actually comes to living life. Life isn't riding a KTM at full speed on busy road while wearing sunglasses just to impress the women. It is enjoying and making the best out of it. I personally am working to hard to fulfill my sense of purpose which is to become a neuroscientist and lessen the suffering of people.

I have one suggestion for you though - Never think you're old. We all age and then eventually leave this world, but I don't think you should get depressed because you've lived your life... I personally enjoy reading your valuable inputs over threads. I don't reply because I usually have little time to reply to answers that answer my questions, I just keep them in my head and go forward.
