I have and I hate it. My social anxiety is so bad that it gets in the way of my life. I was actually diagnosed with social phobia a few years ago and went through a CBT program for it that helped, and still helps when I remember to use the skills.

But not having worked regularly in the last decade and a limited number of friends locally has really taken a toll. I'm now at the point where I'm borderline agoraphobic. I even find going out to medical appointments hard. I can't schedule more than 3 a week or I get too stressed out and shut down.

I'm lucky I have the great friends I do, and we all get along with e-mail / text and actually only seeing each other in person about every 6 weeks or so.

I wish I was different.

Yep. Severe depression, generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety and possibly avoidant personality disorder. Then they wonder why I get really anxious when they suggest group therapy

I feel mental health is a natural reaction for some of us to what we experience. We are AS IS...

Thank you.

Having an intellect capable of recognizing my situation and having feelings about being denied the basic human needs that almost everyone else assumes and enjoys is not merely a chemical imbalance.

This does indeed seem odd... I’m sorry you have to put up with all this...

All of us here are more than intellectually capable of recognising our situation. I agree it isn’t merely a chemical imbalance. Hugs

I had been diagnosed with depression by my regular doctor. As far as social anxiety goes, I haven't been diagnosed with that. But I probably have social anxiety, too. I am very shy with strangers; and I have trust issues from others, even those I know very well.
