I have a good friend I’ve known for many years..
She often has spoken of a feeling of being “never understood”
And “never belonging”
It’s a hard lonely feeling.
I love learning
I love many beautiful things and people
My brain is active
My pain won’t stop
Where is my off switch to stop my pain

To a large but not absolute extent I've "not belonged" all my life.
Based on my reading of your posts, dear Fuzzybear, your sense of "not belonging" is far more pervasive and agonising than mine.

I have often felt like I do not belong.....

People sense something....

I am not sure what...

The feeling is a vicious circle...
Exclusion leads to more pain...

The world would be a better place if everyone could be accepted AS IS...

I feel like this too... I can't seem to find my place, my people.

I don't know the answer, FuzzyBear, regarding switching off the pain... I do know about distraction from the pain. That helps a little.

Have you ever seen the show "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend"? I was watching the beginning of the final season last night, and they played this song ("No one else is singing my song... No one knows the rhythm... enough to sing along...")

No One Else is Singing My Song

I think it's supposed to be somewhat ironic (they end up having 11-12 people all singing it together, showing that we're not as alone with the feeling as we think we are).
