Psychiatrists don't and can't fix anything. So they rely on mind techniques to make us feel better.

Has it been your expectation that they 'fix' one's head? The role of a psychiatrist is to aid in the management of our mental health issues.

It hasn't been my experience either. My psychiatrist prescribes medication that manages my depression so I can live a relatively normal life. I don't know where I would be without my meds.

I'm sorry it hasn't worked for you though.

It gets tough sometimes. I hear you. Don't let that deter you from finding ways to cope. It's all about finding ways to deal with the tough bits.

Not sure if you mean psychiatrist or psychologist. Psychiatrist does meds. Psychologist does counseling.

Either of them need to be willing to listen to you to help

But you also need to be willing to listen and act upon tje psychologists advice in order to help.

Psychiatrists tho must listen to you and you must be honest with them about how you feel n your symptoms or they can give you meds that either do not work or harm you.

I lost my everything due to the fact my parents failed to raise me properly. I got head traumas, I've been abused, I've been isolated from the local society. The worst part is that I got isolated.

Now as I think about it, I'll never find a real job. The competition is so tough, yet my parents think the more I socialize the worse I get (they are ill and they do not see anyone)

What's the point? My psychiatrist does not help me. At least it's my case.

All I ever wanted was a career in science.

Medicine was ruled out by my psychiatrist a year ago, he "encourages" me to do a PhD instead but I know I cannot do anything. He lies to me.

How does he lie to you? And why do you think you cannot do anything?

He lies to me by telling I've got no real condition, despite the fact everyone knows how broken I am.

I cannot do anything because of various reasons. I know I am just way too ill and disadvantaged. My parents won't let me socialize. I am eighteen but I've got no real friends. There's a clear distinction between me and the rest of my class.

If you are 18, you are old enough to take charge of your care. Get a new psychologist n psychiatrist if you don't like the ones you have now. Nothing says you have to stay with any one particular one - especially if you don't like that person, bc then its guatanteed not to work.

So I should try living a content life? But it's so damn hard, especially since I am at zero at everything.

Yes - you should try living a content life. I realize it's hard - mostly bc it's not what you're used to .. but you will find it's worth it.

When you say "zero everything" .. is that in terms of physical n financial things or emotional and self image type things?

I am at zero in terms of physical and financial things.

My parents never will figure out life goes beyond pen-and-paper and grades. To be, say, a competent police official (which my mother always wanted to be) you'd have need to have proper training from childhood. Social skills, physical strength, intellectual skills like reasoning and analysis all need to be learnt right from the time you're born. THEN you can have a future as a police officer. How are you gonna get selected for official training if you don't know how to talk to people? Conversation skills need to be excellent.

My parents, on the other hand, think anything that does not involve pen-and-paper theory and grades, is worthless. So they 'sheltered' me. I don't think anything of any use, I've gone too deep in the rabbit hole. This simple message is taking me too long to write, I am spending a lot time making the sentences meaningful enough to be understood.

It's over. I'll never get to become a scientist, because I really lack the social skills and everything that's required, including the grades. How can you expect grades from someone who sits at home all day?

It wasn't like this right from the beginning. I was a brilliant student in science when I was in high school (three years ago from now, here college begins in eleventh grade) I also had the support of teachers who wanted me to become a doctor.

I've no idea what to do now. I lack all skills required to have a career in science. If not science, what on the world can give me a satisfactory life? This is too much to take.

Well - first .. there are plenty of programs to help you with physical n financial things (I know, I have used them a lot!) Next - you can sit at home and go to college - on your computer! It has actually been my experience many (not all) scientists or mathematicians are not "social creatures" but society loves them for what they do - not how they act or talk.

As far as your parents, you are probably correct - I can't say bc I wasn't there. Either way, what I can say - is you deserve to be happy. To do that, you will need to focus on yourself rather than them. You can neither change them not the past anyway - so why not make an awesome future for yourself instead of allowing the pain they dealt you as a child to hold you back even longer?

No, you are not going to forget. No, you are not going to heal overnight. But - you have to start at some point at some time. Why not here n now? All you need to do is keep reminding yourself "I can't change them - I can only change me" and develop a plan to reach the goal you want. Work on it step by step.

Try it out. See how it goes. I believe you can do it - bc I believe you are stronger than you think!

Thanks! I am fully convinced that I should try rather than sitting here and moaning...

I already go to a college and I am a BSc first year student.
