I agree with speckofdust and SilverTrees. Meekness and abstinence are overrated. I was having a hard time coming up with one because I think things like integrity, honesty and kindness are important. Thanks for helping me out.

Just saw this thread SilverTrees.
That I am so indecisive. It can be a virtue in that I have compassion for others because I can be sympathetic about what might have motivated them to act out in unhelpful ways. Other times, the way I see two sides of the same issue makes me feel paralyzed and split--it makes me feel crazy and helpless. If I could get mad more, I think it would protect me but I have sympathy for everyone, even bad actors. It is a curse. [QUOTE=SilverTrees;6539868]4. What is your greatest extravagance? Spending more money than I should on my children and students. Unable to concentrate on my job because of a serious issue in progress with someone in my family. I was finally able to be decisive enabling me to summon the the will to obtain help for them. Made the decision to comment no more than on it. The person is going through a lot right but it is their story. Only they have the ability to tell it properly. I pray for them a lot. SilverTrees, I am glad you are feeling less depressed right now. ??? Maybe sloth/laziness. Sometimes we need to stop and smell the roses. Sometimes, if we don't spend time just resting and doing nothing we cannot be the best version of ourselves. Thanks for the thread SilverTrees, I would like to TunedOut but can't, so here I am. |

Thank you for sharing your truths Tuned Out. The 3,000 Qs notebook (where I pull the Qs from) is really interesting. I surprise myself sometimes when I answer. other times I am reminded of issues I need to focus on. And some Qs are just fun or silly.
I wish you and your family member well as they work through a serious issue. Perhaps you could try 'guided meditation for anxiety or letting go of thoughts' on Youtube to help you with focus before and after work? It helps me. I often tell my partner that I wish my brain had an 'off switch.' He grins and says "Me too!" |

Interesting. I think, many people practice "mindfulness", and consider themselves very virtuous for it. For me, that's a highly overrated virtue. Like all modern surrogate virtues.
In truth, I possess so few virtues (I mean, really) that I find all of them quite attractive. Maybe chastity not - but that's hardly a commonly observed, much less overrated virtue. |

I once had a wife who said she loved me and was very faithful. Later, after our marriage, I asked, so you are faithful? And she said "well I mean I am very honest". Not much later she very honestly told me she hated me and kicked me out and broke my heart.

My concentration is better today! I did my favorite Yoga Youtube video this morning. Ditto "Me too!" to the 'off switch'. |

When I'm sleepy!
Seriously, though, I generally avoid lying, but when I do it, it's usually to get out of accepting an invitation from someone to do something - someone meaning a person I don't genuinely want to spend time with - something meaning an activity I don't genuinely want to take part in. As in, "Thanks for the invite person X, but I have a prior engagement." I am actually going to be at home. No tea, no shade. __________________ https://imaginativefusion.wixsite.com/mysite/blog Winners are losers who got up and gave it one more try. - Dennis DeYoung "It is possible to turn poison into medicine." ~ Tina Turner Remember we're all in this alone. ~ Lily Tomlin |

I have lied to save my life or to save another from unnecessary pain or embarrassment or to avoid sharing things about myself that I don't want or need to share.

I have lied (usually through ommission or deflection) when a difficult person expects me to do something I do not want to do or wants me to share something that I have a right to keep private (sometimes these difficult people use me to find out information about others). I am not a very good liar but I am pretty good at deflection.
I have also lied in order to not hurt others feelings. I think others have lied to me in order to spare my feelings as well. I think others may have done this for me on PC. I think my therapist has done this. Sometimes the motivation for these lies is that we don't want to devastate or hurt the other person. We want to make the other person to feel better. An example of this kind of lie would be when I ask my therapist if I am normal and she assures me I am. I do not hold that "lie" against her. Her motivation is that she is trying to build my confidence. This is when having the ability to sense others emotions becomes helpful. My gut tells me my therapist genuinely likes me and is trying to help me which allows me not to hold the lie against her. Perhaps she has determined through intuition or experience that discussing why I am not normal would be counterproductive. Last edited by TunedOut; Jun 08, 2019 at 01:52 AM.. |

I have the suspicion that when I lie, I usually have convinced myself at least half way of the truth of my lie. So I cannot really know when I lie.
O yes, I once went to American Apparel and tried to return some t-shirts, still sealed and unpacked, which I had bought several months earlier, and presented the receipts for some identical t-shirts in a different size which I had bought just the other day. The cashier got really confused when she tried to scan the receipt against the t-shirts, and she even called her supervisor. I found that situation quite funny, and explained the discrepancy, but the two ladies became very angry at me, and accused me "why did you lie!" When it was totally obvious why I lied. Just that technology was smarter. |

The list of likes would result in fewer options on the list.
I will go with Roll, Esther Roll. (Belly roll).
