The thing is, I look back at my childhood, and think "If my parents had received available treatment for their diseases, I would not have become like this." I am very different.
Again, not everyone has the luxury of health as I view it. In my country, brain injuries are very common and so are the disabilities and the massive amount of permanent suffering caused by them. And I am not just talking about the brain, the nervous system as a whole needs translation research for the sake of humanity. For how long are we going to just hope our medications will work? And what is their efficiency? I, of course, cannot change the world. But I still want to make a difference. Perhaps a better, good pharmaceutical intervention for hemiparesis? What about reversing mild brain damage? Paving a way to minimize the suffering of those suffering from various psychiatric and neurological diseases? Discovering the pathophysiology behind various nervous disorders? But first, I'll have to get a PhD after I complete my BSc. But it is not that easy. It's maybe that depression is finally affecting me, but due to the fact that I am on the psychotic spectrum I don't think I will succeed if I go out of my state and be on my own. I don't think I could handle the stress. I am also scared of going into big institution, aside from the one that is in my state and just barely 250 kilometers away, because it is close I can have a sense of familiarity. I am fortunate that it is an institute that is one of the best in the country. However, I am not sure I can get admitted in it. I am lost. I just want to help, in a way I am comfortable with. I could be a cyber security consultant / IT consultant but I am not so sure yet. I could be a police officer but I don't think I will pass the medical examination with flying colors. I could do a PhD in neuroscience but I doubt I will help. And aside from these career options I have no idea how I can help. Living in a dysfunctional family my whole life, I just want to make this world a better place. That's all. |

Stay positive.
You do not need to have all the answers now. Do the best you can where you are at now. You will find your way a day at a time |

I agree with @wonderluster. You are still young, and you will figure out a way to help people. I don't really help people in my job, but I volunteer and get a lot out of that.

You could do something like work as a lab manager for a neuroscience lab with a bachelors degree. Lab managers play a critical role in research and development.
