I missed work 2 days last week, and I am off again today because I just can't face it, and this is not the first stretch I have had like this. It's not that I don't like my job, it's that I feel like I am dragging a boulder around with me when I try to get up and go. It's not physical pain, it's that the idea of getting up and being around people feels so draining that I simply want to hide in my bed all day. Do others feel that way sometimes?

I can't keep missing work and I am going to talk to my doctor but it is demoralizing to miss another day and to keep feeling like this, which of course leads to feeling worse and I don't want to spiral.

I don't know if I am describing this correctly, but it's the best I have at the moment.

If anyone has any advice for dealing with these kinds of issues I am all ears.

Thanks for listening.

Well... I don't know what to tell you about this. I probably should because it was pretty-much the story of my life during my working years. (I'm retired now.) In my case, I just got up every day & did what needed to be done no matter how big the boulder felt. It often wasn't pretty. But I did it. I still do except that, being retired now, it's simply household chores I have to face not the world. Growing up, my father always would say: "You're not required to like it. You're just required to do it." I took that as my mantra. I wish I could say it got easier over time. But it didn't. I simply got used to it being that way.

You mentioned you're going to be seeing your doctor. If you're thinking about trying antidepressants, you may want to consider seeing a psychiatrist at some point along the way. You may also want to find a mental health therapist to work with. And then there are therapies such as CBT, DBT, & other stuff. There aren't any magic solutions out there. You just have to try different things & various combinations of things & see what works for you. Best wishes...

Thank you both for taking the time to read this and post a reply. I am resting my mind and fighting my way back (hopefully), it helps to just put it out there.

Thanks again.

I feel this way most days. I hope your doc can help. Not beating yourself up over it is important. Wishing you luck in getting this sorted out.
