Has anyone else trying to function with major depression let themselves go with hygiene. I have never gone more than a day or 2 except camping. But I have been seriously only taking one every week. I know sounds gross but that how bad I feel about myself. I don't feel any better doing. I have to really force myself to. Why? Does anyone else suffer like this?

When I get severe, I can go.a month without a shower.at times. Poor hygiene is a part of depression. Talking through your feelings and doing simple things like going for a walk or taking vit d or petting an animal or getting a hug or helping someone else with something can all be ways to loosen your depression and thus make personal hygiene easier. ❤

Yes
It's good if you can notice it
Please remember that there are parts of your body that require daily care: eyes and teeth especially
I used to keep the same contact lenses on for months
Nothing really happened but I was lucky, it is dangerous

@WantPeaceofMind yes, I can relate. When I'm feeling more depressed I often skip showering and struggle to make myself brush my teeth. For years I've actually only brushed my teeth once a day even though I know I should do it more. I have gone months without cleaning my place even though the dirt bothers me.

me too. I've been going to sleep without brushing my teeth and going to work without taking a shower for a couple of days. lately I've been better about cooking meals and keeping the place relatively clean but today it's going to be a major struggle to do anything. hugs to all!

Up until recently, maybe the past year to year and a half or so, since I broke up with my ex-girlfriend, I would've said no, that no matter how bad I'd gotten I could at least count on going to work and showering/washing my hair/brushing my teeth every day or every few days. But lately I've gone as long as a couple weeks on all accounts — to the point that, for example, I'm laying here in bed and couldn't tell you the last time I showered or washed my hair. Definitely not my finest moments and one of the things I'm least proud of, feel the most shame about, which unfortunately just perpetuates the behavior.

Also doesn't help because I have social anxiety and puts that high or through the roof when I worry about people thinking or being able to see that I haven't showered.
