I have a close (male) friend. He lost his job a money before covid, but he’s been on unemployment..we hung out a couple weeks ago and his spirits seemed fine. However, I did notice him being more lethargic because the next morning all he was doing was sleeping...I finally left in the afternoon..but it disturbed me because he is usually an active guy. Even with the quarantine, you can still keep busy. He has a history of depression and now I feel he’s gotten worse. Usually we talk/text at least once a day. This week all he has been doing is sleeping..like almost 20 hours it seems. I try asking if he’s doing ok but he plays it off as being lazy, etc and this is not like him....I’m afraid he’s drinking or worse..but my asking only pushes him away more...I am afraid I might have to leave him alone for a while...seems like I’m just bothering him anyways. 😪

Dear Roxanne,

I am so sorry this situation has developed with your friend. Wish I knew what to say that would help.

Sincerely yours, Yao Wen
