Ketamine can sometimes be effective in the treatment of depression, but it is also problematic. For the people that I've seen treated with it or its variants, the benefits seem short lived. I think that with any treatment, both medication and therapy are essential. I've actually seen better response to older generation antidepressants or ECT with regards to sustained benefit. That being said, I'm not a doctor and it's important to note that every person is different. Hopefully the medication and treatments are helpful for a lot of people. I think it's always good to have hope and to be willing to try things that may work to help alleviate the pain and struggles of depression.

I'm sorry...I feel foolish. It didn't dawn on me that the "new med" is ketamine. I was focused on the wonderful idea of an antidepressant that is used as a nasal spray. I used to have vicious migraines and when Imitrex first became available (many years ago) it was a nasal spray. SO much easier and more quickly absorbed than pills. Oh, well. Be nice if more psych meds were created in nasal spray form. __________________ |

I have a friend who is working on research with psylocibin. Trying to get it legalized and approved for treatment of many mental disorders. I have thought about trying to get myself included in some of the studies.
