and it has been for ages, and you know full well that tomorrow is going to be the same, what keeps you hanging on and hoping that tomorrow might be diffrent? (though in your heart you know that it really won't be.)?

Do something to make it different? I like to browse replacements.com, which is old china and glassware. Today i received a shipment. I had found a couple of glasses - less than five dollars each - that i think a good friend of mine used to have in the mid-late 1970's. Seeing them today actually gave me a little spark of lightness inside, and i was like, what was that??! Happy?

So your question came on the one day i might have an answer. I also got a broom, but no real spark of joy there yet. I will let you know. Maybe i have to use it first!

I wish I had an answer for this because it describes my situation perfectly. I guess what keeps me going is simply the knowledge that there are no other acceptable alternatives available to me. So I just keep going from one day to the next. Having a daily routine helps. I pretty-much know what I have to accomplish each day & I just make myself do it. I recall corresponding with a therapist one time & saying: "I know what my options are. I just don't like any of them." That's pretty-much all there is to it for me.

I'm looking for answers as well, but the only thing I know is that it must change eventually... for better or worse. It puts things in perspective to realize that our days of life are measured only in the thousands. When your first 10,000 days end, you're still "young," 20,000 means "middle age," and 30,000 is "old." These numbers aren't really all that large, especially when the days drift by one by one. Thus, things will definitely be changing, and in sort of short order...

I started a thread called "So Much Sameness" in the Coping With Emotions Forum on August 21st. That's exactly how I feel. Every day is the same and it seems like nothing's going to change.

I have mixed emotions about it. It's great as far as having nothing too bad going on in my life. I know I would feel bad and wish for the dull life to come back if things change for the worst. It seems like that's more possible than having something incredibly great happen. But then I feel bad that every day's the same, because it feels like a dry existence.

If you want change, the first place to start is within. Visualize what you want. Try to meditate on the things you desire or the changes you wish to see. It is possible. I believe it for myself and everyone. Anything is possible. Just have to believe it.

I would engage in one activity that is a bit different, and maybe build from that.

My life is similar to groundhog day.

Sometimes I take a day off and do something outside of my box.

Then I miss my normal day and cannot wait to return to it.

God, I feel like this a lot... It is a reoccurring thing for me. There are a few things that keep me going. Number one thing that keeps me going is my kids. I could never off myself because of them. I would never do anything that would cause them pain and I know they need me. I have come up with some terrible ways of getting by in the past. A few years back I got super depressed and was suicidal, but because I needed to stay around for my kids I developed a sex addiction. I caused a bunch of trouble, but it still seemed better than killing myself.

Typically, I try to take control and organize social activities for myself and others. Before COVID-19, I would always be on the look out for cool concerts and comedy shows in my area... buy tickets for myself and my husband and sometimes the kids if it was a family kind of show. I plan vacations to look forward to. Every week I make sure I have one social activity to look forward to on the weekends. Almost always I'm the one organizing the activity. I don't wait to be invited to things. I come with something I want to do and then I figure out how to make it happen. Lately, the social activity has been Jackbox games over Google Meet. Occasionally, it's actually meeting someone in person, but it is harder to organize that kind of thing lately.

Trust me, I'm back and forth on this stuff all the time. I can quickly get frustrated and want to give up on everything, but overall, this is the kind of stuff that keeps me going. Making plans to do fun stuff with other people.

Also, another thing that helps is focusing on developing healthy habits (better diet, exercise goals, etc). Try challenging yourself to get better at some skill or learn a new one. For me, I've been trying to get back into running, so I have goals around doing that more frequently. Ultimately, I think the only way anything is ever going to be different is if you do something to make it different.
