i have found that i can eat Ramen noodles with about half the sugar boost as the one i get with spaghetti. maybe it's because the 'sketti is thicker or richer, i dunno, but that's what i learned. of course there's no nutrition in Ramens

I will be checking my blood sugar in a few hours, I gave in to some ice cream overnight, it never fails to help me feel better. I know its wrong for me but I have to indulge in something once in a while. Looks like we lost forwhatitsworth2u, I hope everything is ok with her.

thanks for noticing a missing person, disparaissant~!

i made tater soup yesterday, and it was really good!! i put a little ham in it for flavor, and i always use lots of onions and some celery, so it's also nutritious AND low-cal. taking suggestions for new soups,, i seem to be good at making them, and i love to make too much and eat on it for days....

You are allowed a treat disspariant.

I have to say that I can make a really nice pumpkin soup but I ate so much of it that I made myself sick of it.

I think the best pumpkins to use are either the butternut pumpkin or the jap ones.

thanks, possum~ unfortunately for me, i am very sensitive to vitamin A, and stay away from most orange colored foods,,, including punkin... tho the pie seems to sit well with me (i think it's the spices) and it's low cal for pie

Sorry to hear that Vit A affects you. For me it's vit C manly related to citric acid. Gives me migraines if I am not careful. Never had punkin pie. Only tried pecan once.... yum yum. That would be deadly for my bsl.

I have been cutting down (not out) my intake of carbs. Feeling nauseous. Does anybody else get this?

to me, this is why it's so important to know one's own body and it's responses to Everything~! no "average" chart or Bell Curve is going to fit anybody all the time. i just wish i knew how to explain this to my doctors~! i'm going next week to a new doc, a female CPA, who refused to work for the clinic i go to. that is her highest recommendation in my eyes~ O.O

It's good to hear that you can now break free of your previous docs. Fingers crossed that all goes well for you.

i just don't know if giving her 'more information' is good, or if i should let her 'discover' things for herself... that's always been a risky proposition for me~
thanks for your well-wishes, Possum.

I get like that. Like a plate of plain veg will make me angry. So ive been adding more fat. That seems to help.

Well, I've been nauseous, I'm having a bit of a hard time keeping stuff down. I cut out carbs, a lot, maybe that's why? I had a piece of ancient grain bread today and it tasted sweet, weird. Soup sounds like a good way to go, going to see if I can make that. I love potatoes, so I'd be putting some in there. I'd never be satisfied with a plate of veggies either unaluna, I'd at least put cheese on it. Oh, I can eat a whole can of pea soup, I think I'll go buy some tomorrow. Best wishes to you all.

The odd sense of nausea is getting more 'normal'. Least I went shopping today and only bought what I needed not extra junk that normally finds it's way into my trolley. You know the kind of things that play havoc with blood sugar levels.

I never liked Pea soup as a kid but it may be time to try again. Something nice for the winter.

i'm cooking pinto beans with that ham bone right now,,, omg, i hope i can last til it's done~! it smells soooo good,, and if i don't have cornbread and butter with it, it should be low-cal~

(the secret to good beans is to soak them overnight before simmering them for way too long (3-5 hrs). the more a bean is cooked, the less it 'out-gasses'...
also, add an oil to them,, i like butter, but ham fat is good too, olive oil for the 'faint of heart'~

The meter I got just a short while ago is giving me error messages. There's something else I have to do, see if I can get another one. I can tell if my sugars get low, but not really know when they are high. Anyone else have symptoms with high blood sugar, and what are they?

i recently had a 'retinal bulge' (just shy of a retinal tear), probably from the pressure in my eyes being too high. now i have to go have a glaucoma test... that is one symptom of diabetes, tho i'm not sure that it's from high BSL's, because mine have been mostly good since i was stabilized on meds, oh, going on 7 yrs ago. another little 'gift' from diabetes is neuropathy; my feet are super sensitive and my hands are slightly insensitive. again, not sure that is from high BSL's.

what i can tell you is, before i was diagnosed, i went to a doc because i felt like i was dying. i was dying, my organs were shutting down from starvation (and i was fat). that doc abused me and threw me out of his office. i had to find transportation 70 miles to another clinic, where i 'declared' my Dx, after researching online. i vaguely remember the symptoms i researched were:
Frequent Urination, (with that fruity smell);
Constant Hunger;
Increased Thirst. ...
Extreme Fatigue and Irritation. ...
Blurry Vision. ...
Numbness. ...
Slow Healing Wounds.

these symptoms all begin to return if your BSL's stay high. and worse, one often begins to develop poor circulation in the hands and feet, making wounds all the more dangerous, and cold hands and feet common.

blindness is my greatest dread, so i work really hard to keep my eyes, hands and feet~! living with diabetes is no laughing matter~ keep it down~

(p.s. meters can be prescribed if your insurance covers them)

Definitely take the meter back to where you got it from. Might be as simple as a dodgy battery. High blood sugars make me incredibly tired and emotional. Blurry vision is tending to drop in more now but I am not sure if its due to high sugar levels or if I have been switching from too many things like knitting, computer, reading and my eyes just get tired. Need to get my eyes checked again. Every six months is a pain but that is due to a combination of diabetes and the psych meds too. The thought of going blind is beyond scary.

Do you have the blood test done where they can average it back over the last three of four months? I find that reassuring because my doctor is happy with that and I like it too.

Yes the gp is fairly good at remember to do the A1c. It's not bad, but my sugars seem to spike in the morning. I finally got the meter going, maybe a few bad strips I used. My sugars were almost right on tonight. I've been living off peanut butter, coffee, eggs, some veggies and cutting out most carbs. Except potatoes, love em. Thanks guys.

Ive been having a navel orange (or two!) first thing in the morning, with my coffee, as sort of a pre-breakfast. Idk why, ive just been craving it. I havent had a slice of bread in almost a week. That is pretty much an historical miracle! I do have oatmeal every day, tho. The scale showed a measurable decrease this morning, finally. Im doing weight watchers. Usually im not strict enough on it and i dont lose. But this week ive been very strict, but also havent overeaten nor undereaten, that is, not let myself get too hungry, which afterwards i usually would eat too much. Its hard work!

Good for you unaluna. Hope you can stick with it.

You have a good time in the kitchen by the sounds of it Gus.

I wonder what the sugar content is in the peanut butter disparaissant? Peanut butter is not supposed to be that bad for diabetes. Wonder if something else is the culprit in the mornings.
