Hello EnchildrRu,

I understand your struggle with diabetes.I have the same problem and I am trying to get my blood sugar down by diet alone,I too was diagnosed several years ago. They had me on insulin for six months it was a nightmare,my appetite when sky high,I could not stop eating and had cravings that were intense for doughnuts, chocolate, all kinds of junk food and ice creme and other high calorie stuff.I gained three stones which is 42 pounds.I had to stop the insulin due to weight gain and my blood sugars got worse not better. So my advice is refuse insulin however bad your sugars get as it makes the problem worse not better. If upping your medication helps go for that option.

Hello! Hope all are well. 😊
My wife has been in hospital for 3 weeks after having 3 surgeries. She now receives all food, fluids, and meds through a j tube to the small intestine. The is the result of gastroparethsis, caused by type 1 diabetes. She also has a g tube to the stomach draining bile, and an abscess at this site being treated. (The abscess happened at the hospital, i was furious!) I'm starting to feel more confident in her care, and much more importantly, she's finally starting to feel better! After dialysis tomorrow i think we'll have a movie marathon in bed with our pets. 😊
Take care, everyone!

Welcome to PC EnchilaRu. Hope you can find the support you need. Emotional eating is so hard to deal with. I struggle with it too. I know what I should do and find myself doing the opposite.

I have been putting off seeing my doctor for more than a month but I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon. I will find out what the damage is to my bsls.
Sounds like a very rough time Gr3tta. It must have been a very hard time for the each of you. Good to know that things are slowly getting better. Hope you both enjoy a little relax with your furbabies and some movies.

Ate lots today, and ate chips, shortbread biscuits, ice creme, toasted crumpets and I drank pepsi. Haven't measured my blood sugars since this morning but I know they are probably hitting the roof.I am about to measure them now before bed.I don't need to say what they are I know they are far too high.

Visit to the doctor confirmed that my bsls for the last three months have been averaging over 8. Now I need to take Trulicity(dulaglutide) via injection once a week on top of the Galvumet. It isnt insulin. It is supposed to help with appetite and decreasing sugar levels. Good luck to me.
Has anybody else tried this?

My blood sugars have been out of control this month,I lacked the discipline to control how many sugary snacks I ate.I am seeing the nurse on May 2nd for a weigh in and check on sugar levels.I was meant to start exercise twice a week for one hour at a gym,it was meant to be low cost, but it works out a fortune for very little time actually exercising,so I withdrew from the scheme. They wanted an initial joining fee, then 20 a month and I had to find 17.20 a week taxis to and from the gym.A small fortune!I sent them an email telling them how annoyed I was and why didn't they explain this cost on their leaflets save me wasting my time applying. It isn't for my benefit it is just recruiting members for the gyms!

@possum- I'm sorry I'm not familiar with the particular medicine. I think if you just happen to also have a cold after starting it, you should definitely report these symptoms as possible side effects. I hope you can tolerate the medicine and see good results!

My wife has continued to suffer greatly. She now has a g tube for draining from the stomach, and a j tube. The j tube is for continuous feeding, and all medications, including PRN'S, which she cannot do on her own. It involves stopping the feed, crushing the meds in a grinding style crusher, mixing the powdered meds with water, feeding the meds through the tube with a large syringe. Hopefully they go with gravity. If not, you need to unplug things with flushes and suction, get meds poured back out so they're not wasted, etc. It's a process. The get rehooked up and restart the feed.
This is all due to advanced gastroparethsis caused by type 1 diabetes. Gastroparethsis has many other causes. My wife's condition is further complicated by End Stage Renal Disease. Also caused by type 1 diabetes. (Although ESRD can be caused by many factors, including type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, drug abuse, physical injury, birth defects, the list goes on...)

A month ago my bsls were around 14. I had no control over what I ate. Three weekly Trulicity injections later with my Galvumet have seen my bsls go down to 7.4. The Trulicity has well and truly curbed my appetite. I do feel tired but am hoping to feel better when this cold has gone. There are other side effects that I am hoping these will settle.

Trulicity is used for people with type two diabetes. I had never heard of it before. When I went to the doctor I told him that I didn't want insulin because of the possibility of putting on weight. I only knew that from what you had said Marilyn. He agreed that it can do that. Maybe you can ask the nurse about Trulicity Marilyn? No pressure.

Aww Gr3tta - I can't imagine how hard life is for you and your wife. What a very long road. Sending you both lots of warm and healing thoughts.
