'Many Sides of Jane'

"In the new series, “Many Sides of Jane,” a 28-year-old mother of two, Jane Hart, who was recently diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), previously known as Multiple Personality Disorder, allows cameras into her life to follow her journey. Her more than nine identities, ranging in age from 6-28 years old, can appear at any time. Diagnosed only three years ago, she is on a journey to understand what caused her DID as well as figure out how she can best co-exist with her many “parts.” Throughout the series, Jane will be coming to terms with past abuses that occurred during her childhood and her relationship with her family under the watchful care of her clinical psychologist. This is a raw, unfiltered look at an extraordinary young woman who is learning how to live her life again with a rare, commonly misunderstood, disorder known as Dissociative Identity Disorder."

I really want to watch this. With all of the stigma around this disorder (and media not really helping matters), I'm hoping this show clears up some common misconceptions. More than that, I just want to watch something that says, "Hey, I understand." Without being harmful. I'm so tired of being misunderstood because of Hollywood.

Anyone else really interested in watching this?

remote it is off, is going to be with me I'd enjoy all critics basically though until you learn what sensationalism is about the thrill, then it isn't going to make sense. I'm teaching mine about the spectrum oof what it is necessary we all can custom our guidance to talior then get out the way and expose those that can't all while being positive.....(sorry no commas needed)

looks like its going to be a good show to watch. that said when I wrote to A&E about things like editing, and whether it was going to be like reality tv where they will be doing re takes, positioning, lighting and editing out things they emailed me that of course it will have things that are editted and retakes and so on. its a glimpse of a persons life and they will be looking at things that will get the ratings of course. And because of ratings and language, time and such there will be like any other reality tv mini series things making changes / edits, but they are going to try and stay as close to the real deal as tv standards allow...

I take all this to mean though they are going to be televising a person with DID they will be making on location decisions and after filming edits and during filming "takes and retakes"

that tells me though they are going to try and depict the reality of this persons life and disorder things may not be as real as I may expect it to be considering I had the disorder myself...so not to let any aspects of the show trigger me if suddenly I notice where they have made an edit or retake (you know those spots in the show where a character has a piece of clothing they didnt just a second ago or that purse just jumped from left to right or wow where did that earring come from lol Having an ocd like mind sometimes has its dis advantages when watching reality shows)

this is a mini series of 6 episodes, I certainly hope they dont expect to show this person going from diagnosis to integration in 6 episodes. if so that will seriously cause lots of mass medial back lash with something that at this time looks like its going to be an ok - good show.

It looks interesting for sure. The only thing is we all know reality shows are never really reality

I will watch it and I hope it's informative and helpful for people and not just another exploitation of someone with a mental illness that increases the stigma surrounding DID.

I hope they can capture and portray the extreme pain that goes along with therapy and all the hardships of accepting the diagnosis and working towards understanding and healing.I hope it doesn't end up focusing on the different alters as if that's all DID is about when there's so much more to it than that. But by reading about it and watching the preview it kinda seems like that's how it's gonna be.

I don't know,it just seems to me since she was recently diagnosed she might have thought oh wow,how cool,I'm so unique and special and I can make money off of this.Maybe I think that way because the last thing I would have done after getting diagnosed is exploit myself to make a buck or want anyone to know.I thought my therapist was wrong and a quack and I was ashamed of being diagnosed with it.But,who knows, maybe it will show that too and then later on once she's in the thick of therapy she will realize how personal it all is and regret sharing it with the world.

Obviously I'm a bit cynical.Hopefully I will come back and post after watching and will say I was completely surprised and wrong.

I just had to explain something to Papa bear He still doesn’t get it. And I “made him sad” As for other “family” members, they still think I’m “just a quiet person” (at least those who I have to talk to I’m interested (((((((( So leigheas ))))))))

PS medication compliant? What a sick joke, as you know I’m allergic to all the meds (((((((( So leigheas ))))))))

I watched an interview this woman did on TV this morning. It kind of bothered me that it does seem to focus mostly on the alters. It also seems too cutesy, glittery and glamorous. she had told them that it was unlikely an alter would come out during the interview when she was asked ahead of time.It made me wonder how the heck she would know that especially since a tv interview would be very stressful for most people, even without DID.Seems strange to me she would know that ahead of time yet from the preview it seems they randomly pop out

She was diagnosed 3 years ago and to me she seems like she's enjoying this attention.

It will be airing tonight.I hope it turns out better than I'm expecting.

My wife is watching it now. I don't normally watch TV at all so I don't know what reality TV is usually like. This seems low drama and really trying to explain what she's going through... Although I only saw about 10 min of it.

The show wasn't available on the A&E app until this morning so I started watching it while I was having my morning coffee.I turned it off after about 10 minutes because it was what I was expecting, all about the alters mainly. It was a bit United States Of Tara-ish I thought.

I watched more of it later today and turned it off again,it just wasn't interesting enough to keep my attention. And I just now sat and watched the rest of the show.

*as a side note, maybe I found it so boring because her psychologist annoyed me,just his tone of voice and behavior(or should i say lack of behaviorr) was hard to withstand and I would probably walk out on someone like that.*

I plan on continuing to watch because I am hoping it gets better than it is now.I saw a snippet of another episode where she gets an MRI,I'm curious how that will go.And I'm curious if the show is going to have more depth than just talking about all the different alters, their likes and dislikes, who they date, etc.

I give it a thumbs down. For many reasons and I'm disappointed in it as of now.

my "looks like it may be a good show" quickly changed to mmm ok is it my imagination or did that alters voice just change to being a different alters voice but same name as the alter that matched the first name? maybe a glitch in the film ...keep watching...... frowning wait where is the info on this, they just said this and left the viewer hanging.. mm maybe that will be explained later?

this went on with my wife and I watching the show and talking about it for about 15-20 minutes then we both got up and said cant watch this any more. lol

maybe its because I know more about this then the show is providing or allowed to provide, maybe its the fact that I have already been through the whole process / integrated.. what ever the reason I kept getting irritated that they were skipping important parts of the disorder, and being able to notice where and when they did some of the editing/ retakes I just could not get into watching it all the way through.

My wife and I will not be watching any further into the show. for me and my wife it is what it is, a reality show that like A&E says they wont be able to show everything or explain everything. but it will be a beginning on their change over from fiction to reality shows and will get some discussions going.

my big question now is wonder how many people will take this show and try and fit their selves into it including those too good to be real moments that all reality shows include.

I say .........in general.......... real life is going to get interesting for some with DID, with out DID and treatment providers alike. any time there is a new mental disorder film on the horizon theres always an increase in people feeling like they have what they see in the movies, an increase in those who have the problem but because of how shows portray it dont want it, and treatment providers have the time of their lives trying to sort out the two.

Now that I think about, I don't think I should watch it. I tend to get triggered by seeing someone switch (I've never known the reason for this). That and lately I've been so ****ing sensitive to any talk of trauma, more than usual that is. Besides, if it's how you are all describing it, then I may not be interested. We have someone on YouTube we all watch anyway and she actually makes us feel better about it all. I even talked to her system once. Very caring and sweet. I should just stick to what helps.

I wish we that someone unaffected by this disorder would write a review to get a normy’s opinion like if they learned anything. Can anyone find one?

I don’t have AE here.
