Ok so I was right I was diagnosed OSDD. How can you have any of it if you dont dissociate?
Also if you have alters but dont dissociate would you be OSDD1a or OSDD1b?

I’ve never been a medical professional.. I personally am not a fan of the DSM or it’s equivalent. Although I think there have been some “improvements” over the years. I don’t have answers (haven’t read all your posts). I’m wishing you healing in whatever form that takes for you....

I’m sorry you’re feeling lost. All those labels can be confusing for many (most) I think at times

Have you thought of consulting a different provider who may be better equipped to help clarify things for you?

my suggestion is talk with your treatment providers. OSDD is like a dissociative category where there is many mental disorder names inside it...

example

here on psych central you have a category...... dissociative disorders

and inside that category you have different names

garden
teen
the main dissociative board

with OSDD category of disorders you have names like...

macropsia
tachypsychia

and other mental disorder names too.

to find out which OSDD disorder you have you will need to talk with your treatment provider they will tell you whether you have macropsia, tachypsychia or any of the other dissociative disorders in this category.

like I said before many times here when ever anyone asks about OSDD what you see online is not the full information and criteria about this. most of what this is, is for treatment providers to know only. they give tests some oral that you dont know they are testing you and some computerized and some written. then when the test is over they tell you the name of your OSDD disorder

my point we cant answer this for you, only your treatment providers can do that.

So how did you find out that you were diagnosed with OSDD?Did you talk to your old psychologist? So is your therapist still saying different things, one day saying DID then saying it's not,it's Bipolar?Or has she settled on one thing now?

I am so confused trying to keep up with this.

My old Psychologist confirmed today that she diagnosed me DDNOS when it was called that. My therapist thinks its DID but she has very little knowledge of the disorder. My old Psychologist specializes in it. I do have racing thoughts as well so thats why she mentioned bipolar. Yesterday she told me she thinks I have DID. I contacted my old Psychologist and said I wanted to be retested. She said I am on to much medicine to properly access my alters so was sticking with her old diagnosis of DDNOS(OSDD) I am going to see my old Psychologist for three months in May when my therapist goes away. Then when she comes back I am going back to her. Its just so I dont have to start fresh with someone I am only going to see for three months but at least I will have support when my therapist goes away.

since you were diagnosed before the DDNOS label became non existant (thrown out and now there is no mental disorder called DDNOS) it would be a good time to talk with your treatment provider about getting a new diagnostic evaluation. by todays diagnostics and labels you will not get diagnosed with DDNOS because there is no label as that any more.

short rundown on what dissociative disorders we have now...

UDD (Unspecified Dissociative Disorder) this is used in emergency situations like in the hospital emergency room. when you see your regular doctors they change this to what you really have.

OSDD (Other Specified Dissociative Disorder) this has many dissociative disorder names. what name you get depends on which diagnostic criteria ........and........other accompanying symptoms you have. you will not know which of the other dissociative disorders you have until your treatment providers diagnose you with that disorder. each number in this disorder has more than one dissociative disorder name that is not listed for the public. treatment providers have a list of disorders for each number you see in the diagnostic criteria and other accompanying symptoms.

when you get diagnosed with this disorder they have to tell you (thats what specified means they have to tell you) which dissociative disorder name you have example one of my OSDD disorders is called macropsia. They can not just tell you, you have OSDD and leave it at that.

the reason they have such strict rules for OSDD is to prevent just anyone being thrown into this disorder willy nilly, melting pot style that NOS disorders did.

there are actually harder stricter standards to get diagnosed this then there is for DID, Dissociative Amnesia, depersonalization/ derealization disorder, and UDD.

Dissociative Amnesia is having a special kind of memory problems because of triggers. it is not things like forgetting where you put your keys, or a book or forgetting your name and whether you went to work yesterday or not. it is a situation where something upsetting has happened to you and as a result you do not remember anything right before that upsetting thing, during that upsetting thing and after that upsetting thing. most do not even know they are having memory problems associated with that triggering event. example someone who has been abused on their loved ones wedding day wont remember there was even a wedding, they wont remember any plans that led up to the wedding, they wont remember the ceremony, the reception. just one day their loved one comes to them with their husband and its like wow you got married cool when did that happen, wow do I have a terrrible memory if I cant remember that lol. Dissociative amnesia is different than physical amnesia. the memory is still there and will come back to them, most later after everything has calmed down and they are no longer triggered. you might say having this by itself, this is a short term thing, it doesnt have a time limit but it heals itself faster than physical amnesia does. eventually a person gains back those forgotten memories.

depersonalization/derealization is feeling numb, spaced out, like things are moving too slow or too fast, sometimes feeling unreal, sometimes feeling the world around you isnt real, but all the while knowing that your body really isnt missing parts or physically numb, knowing things are really the same as they always have been, and knowing though things may feel unreal and and disconnected they always have been and are the way they always have been. and the problems are due to being triggered... example sometimes I feel numb but I know thats my hand, I know my hand is attached to my body and isnt really disconnected from me. I may not feel the world is real but I know the world is real, I may feel unreal but I know I am real.

DID this is having alternate personalities that take control, each has their own sense of agency. some call this possession. the term possession does not mean spirits and ghosts. in some languages and cultures the term possession is used to show ownership of the body ( this is like how if someone get busted for drugs its said they were in possession of drugs. example in my culture we dont say when rainy was out she did this that and the other thing . we say when rainy was in possession of the body she did this that and the other.... another way we word it is when I dissociated (felt numb, spaced out and disconnected because I was triggered Rainy was in possession and ....) a person with this has a special kind of memory problem that is different than normal forgetfulness. the problems with this disorder are not because of drugs and alcohol and other diseases and disorders like not because of weed, or going out drinking or because of having a seizure.

thats what dissociative disorders we have now. there is no longer any DDNOS or equivelent of what DDNOS used to be. they took all the diagnostics for this and split it up into other mental disorders and new mental disorders.

short version one person I know who in the past got diagnosed DDNOS, now with todays diagnostics are diagnosed Schizophrenia, another person who got diagnosed DDNOS in the past is now diagnosed with stress and trauma disorder (new name for PTSD category ) and some that I know that got diagnosed with DDNOs are now diagnosed with DID and still others.... well you get the point. trying to figure this out is something you cant do alone.

if you want to know what your past diagnosis of DDNOS is today you will need to talk with your treatment providers. they will tell you which of todays mental disorders listing of disorders that you now have.

Going by what little that I’ve read and know....it sounds like she reiterated the previous dx in the context of you weren’t officially diagnosed with DID regardless off what anybody has said in the past.

You are you, you are how you are, call letters don’t make a difference or changes how you is. Therapy isn’t cookie cutter, what works for one might not necessarily work for another client....or in the same fashion.

I do admit that I went through a time of “am I DIDish or not”....which category do I fit in as if it will end some need to know and closure to relief. It doesn’t. I have parts that are real and live a life of their own within this life’s frame and I don’t care if you label it oatmeal.

What’s in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. You are as you is.

I'm so sorry, Dnester This must be very confusing for you. If your therapist doesn't have much experiences with DID, perhaps you should change your therapist as soon as you can? After all, that's what you're getting treatment for. I know it's hard, since you've said you have transference issues, but I'm not sure if there are any other options. Whathever you do, stay safe and take care of yourself. I agree with AlwaysChanging2 that labels aren't always so important. I hope you'll be able to get the help you need and deserve. Take it one step at the time. Take baby steps. Try to hang on. I hope you'll feel better soon. Feel free to PM me anytime. Let me know if I can do something to help you. Wish you good luck! Let us know how it goes. Sending many hugs to you

ummm suggestion call around and ask psychiatrists whether being on medications disqualifies a person for diagnostic testing for mental disorders. it costs nothing to make phone calls, and they will probably get a great laugh over what your treatment provider told you and may just report that treatment provider to the state ethics board.

when you think about it most people normally are on some sort of meds these days. that medication may be for their heart or their lungs or their feet or their rash, or their cold/ flu or their depression, anxiety, psychosis... and they still go through being able to be diagnosed whether they have a mental disorder or not.. (reality testing proof of this is reading posts anywhere on psych central. just about everyone that I have read here have posts saying they are on this meds and that one and just got diagnosed with this and that through diagnostic testing.)
almost everyone who goes through diagnostic testing for mental disorders is already on medications.... high blood pressure or high cholesterol or anti depressants you name it. its done. people are not refused health care because of being on medications.

we cant tell you what to do but we can tell you what we have noticed in your posts...

you post you want answers but for this or that reason you cant seem to get any answers from this or that treatment provider. ok it is what it is...

bottom line is here on psych central we can not give you the answers you are posting you want.... a diagnosis.....

its come down to many of us on all your threads have made lots of suggestions but for what ever reasons those suggestions are knocked out of consideration.

Im sorry but I have nothing else to suggest. I and other members have suggested everything that I can think of to possibly help you with your posting that you want and need to know what mental disorders you have, and saying one moment you are diagnosed with this or that then changing to no they said this or that , which invalidates your posts before it.

what it boils down to is taking all the excuses on both the treatment provider and your side that you have posted about out of the picture.

then sit down and .........you...........decide for yourself whether this is something you really really want to know.

if this is something that is important to you, you make it happen, either through your exiting therapist or another mental health treatment provider that is willing to administer the so many number of tests and get you diagnosed like you keep posting you want to know.

if this isnt important to you, you will just accept the fact that you are how you are and work a treatment plan that addresses your symptoms rather than a diagnostic label. And not worry any more about whether you have this mental disorder or that one.

thats what it all boils down to. each one of us has had to decide just how important it is to ourselves to get our answers then talk with our treatment providers and follow through and if the treatment provider doesnt agree to help us we have gone elsewhere to another treatment provider who helped us get our answers.

good luck to you. I hope you get what you are looking for in a therapist, treatment and diagnosis or no diagnosis which ever you would like the outcome to be.
