In May I have the option of going to my old psychologist while my T is out of town. She was the first person to diagnose me DDNOS and is well known by other therapists as being very knowledgeable in Dissociative Disorders. Her reviews by patients say she gives that dianoses freely and is obsessed with it but really only one person said that. She says I am one to many meds to retest. Or I could see a new unbiased person that specializes in Dissociative Disorders that may retest me but isnt as well known as my old Psychologist. Keep in mind I would be starting new with either one I chose because my old Psychologist doesnt have my records anymore. What would be your choice if it were you?

How long is your therapist going out of town for? Would it be possible to see the old psychologist just a few times during your main T's absence without having to worry about all the diagnoses, but just for basic support and maintenance until your regular T returns?

I feel like if my main T was going out of town I would prefer to see a known T, as it would feel more familiar and comfortable during a possibly rough time (without main T).

My T is going out of town for three months. My old Psychologist doesnt remember our conversations and I dont either. All she remembers is my test score was high. Its been at least 15 years since I have seen her. So it will be like seeing her again for the first time. On one hand seeing her is good I know she is well versed on dissociative disorders, downside she wont retest. If I see this new person they dont have as many years experience but they may retest and it would be maybe a third person to confirm but they could say nah you dont have that. Which I am not worried about that part. Just curious what others would do in my situation. My T now knows nothing about dissociative disorders. So seeing either of these two people is better than what I have now.

What's YOUR opinion on this Dnester? What do you think would be best for you to do?

I'm not going to give my opinion because this is something you will need to think about and decide on your own. There's things you need to take into consideration though.Like will you be able to continue seeing the new person if you want to?What if you get a different diagnosis, will you trust this new person? If it is a different diagnosis where will you go from there?Would your current therapist change their diagnosis because of it and would she change her treatment plan?If it's the same diagnosis will you finally allow your current therapist to treat you and go along with what she says?I could think of many more but my point is you need to think about this from every angle and make the decision that's best for you.

Good luck deciding

Thanks Betty Banana! Anything else you think I need to consider would be very helpful. Yes if I didnt want to go back to my T I could stay with either one of those people. As far as being able to trust a new persons diagnosis part of me is like why would I trust a person with less experience to give me a diagnosis over a more qualified person (old Psychologist) Then part of me is like well if they do say it is the same diagnosis I will have no choice but to buck up and accept because that will make three professionals backing up that diagnosis. If it is that I dont have OSDD or whatever I dont know what T would do because she would have my old Psychologist which she said she trusts saying one thing and then this new person she reffered me to because I said I dont trust doctor C's ( old psychologist) diagnosis saying another thing. This is a royal mess! I dont believe my old Psychologists diagnosis because she wont retest me and is basing everything on a test I dont even remember. If there is even a test. I wouldnt be able to trust the knew persons opinion because they are less experienced.

I'm so sorry you're going through all of this, Dnester I agree it's a very tough decision! I completely agree with what Betty_Banana and mostlylurking have already wisely said better than I ever could! I'd suggest to listen to them if you can and want! They always give such great advice! I believe there are advantages and disadvantages with both of them! Perhaps you may try to see if you may see another qualified therapist outside of the new one you've found? You've said you don't think he/she may be qualified as your old therapist was. Perhaps you may try to look for another one if you can and want. From what you wrote, it seems like your priority is mostly to be sure of whether or not you have DID. I'd be more inclined to see a new therapist. You may be getting a third option and hopefully a confirmation about your doubts! That's just my opinion though! I may be completely wrong! The final decision is up to you! Either way, I hope you'll be able to get the help you need and deserve! You deserve to get better and to feel good just like everyone else does! You deserve live an happy life just like everyone else does! Just try to think very carefully about what you truly want and what your primary goal is. I feel like that's the most important thing you can do! I hope you'll be able to take a decision soon! We'll be here for you if you need advice and support! You know we won't judge you! I promise you that! You're a strong, wonderful person! Please remember that! I'm so sorry you have to deal with all of this, Dnester! I'm so sorry you're going through all of this! You don't deserve to go through all of this! I'm sure you'll be able to get through all of this! You don't deserve to suffer at all! Nobody deserves to suffer at all, certainly not you! I hope things will get better soon for you! please don't give up hope! Try to hang on as much as you can! You can do this! You've got this! Keep fighting! Remember that you're awesome and strong! I believe in you! We all believe in you! We're all rooting for you! Keep fighting! You're a warrior!
