Don’t know if this is safe or ok to post.
We had pretty negative experiences with a Facebook DID group called Alternation and with the grown’s owner who befriended us before they actually started the group.
Just wondering if anyone else experienced similar?

Hi many,

I have not seen this group and am not sure if it breaks the rules to mention.

I just wanted to say hi and you are not alone.

as far as I know the rules about other sites is that we are not supposed to post about them for the purpose of advertising / sending members to the sites or for gathering members for the site...

any facebook page or group you join that gives them access to your facebook time line...

think of it just like when you add a friend to your friend listing. they will get to click on your name and visit your facebook page and read any postings that appear on your facebook page, read your friends listing, know what ever you post on your facebook page... just like when you add great aunt gertrude to your facebook lists, great aunt gertrude will see everything that you have on your timeline, who and what you are posting....

and any of your friends and friends of friends will also see any postings that you make to the group and on your facebook page / groups.

facebook is also search able with google. which means anything you post on facebook is found on google too depending upon how you have your own settings and how the other persons on your lists have their settings.

example when I post to "great aunt gertrude" which by the way is a made up name for this post lol if great aunt gertrude has her settings at public anyone can see what I posted to her time line.

line in the sand you dont know what others in the group are doing with the info that you post and what they decide to use from your facebook page about your personal life. not confidential.

its the internet anyone can be anyone and do anything with what they find online. though the hope is everyone in the group stick to confidentiality, theres no real way to enforce it should someone take one of your posts and post it elsewhere or send it by the facebook chat to all on your friends and family listing (yes this has happened to many that I know in facebook groups including me when those in a facebook group got upset with something I posted, luckily my family and friends already know about my journey with DID and integration.)

bottom line is no online group is confidential and its only as safe as you, your own settings and what you decide to post.

I follow the saying that if I wuldnt stand out on the street corner shouting for all to hear then it doesnt belong on facebook , twitter or elsewhere on the internet.

my suggestion is think carefully about what online groups anywhere that you want to join. those they may say they are confidential and such, online there actually is no such thing unless you know everyone in the group in your real off the computer life..

Thank you for this.
Yes, we do understand now and have some internal safe guards in place to be much more cautious about engaging with online folks beyond just generalities.
We are grateful for this forum and others that can offer support with greater safety.
We are not in any Facebook groups any more.
