So I asked this in the Schizophrenia section but I want to hear from DID people. I am not asking for a diagnosis. My Psychologist and Psychiatric NP have both diagnosed me with DID since I have been here last. I have also asked my Psychologist this question and although it makes sense I want to hear from others. I am still very confused on the voices thing. Let me say they are not outdide of me. They are also not voices at all but thoughts. Never have distinguishing tones except sometimes they are louder than other times. Sometimes I will go for days without having the thoughts (chatter) I have read that DID people have different tones, littles talking. I have also heard it just sounds like thoughts. Some schizophrenics people describe their voices like that as well. How would you distinguish DID voices (thoughts)or schizo voices ( thoughts)

I have schizoaffective and DID.
For me the main difference is that the DID voices are inside my head and the schizo voices are outside. The schizo literally sound like someone is standing next to me talking (or screaming) whereas the DID voices are inside. Hope that helps. __________________ Diagnoses: PTSD with Dissociative Symptoms, Borderline Personality Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain |

Thank you. With the DID are they thought like? Or do you hear voices in your head like different people like little kids etc?

So can DID voices sound like very loud thoughts or is that more schizophrenia related.

I don't think it's schizophrenia-related to have very loud, intrusive thoughts.
Anxiety, OCD, PTSD all come with very loud, intrusive thoughts that can be disorganized & not make any sense. |

Yes but they are anxiety related. They usually have theme. These dont. They are things like who is MIC? Or hey 20 times a day in my head. I want a steak and cheese sub when I dont. Or as asking myself do I like someone but it doesnt feel its coming from me. Or other strange things. I do believe I have some OCD. I have talked to a bunch of DID peoole over the past vouple of days as well as schizophrenic people and they are no differences in how they experience their voices. Both have said they can be thought like. So I am scared. I do not want schizophrenia. My doctor tells me I do not but when I have people from two groups telling me their voices sound the same how can I know?

Nobody else is going to be able to answer your questions to your satisfaction.
Everyone experiences this stuff differently. I experience random dialogue-like thoughts all the time, and it's not related to my DID. It's just my brain firing stuff off like it's offloading electricity. Obsessing/focusing on it is part of OCD/anxiety. You should talk to your doctors about it. Edit to add: Internal dialogue is also not a DID-specific thing. Many people without DID experience internal dialogue. |

theres so many different ways to have mental disorders as there are people. I know this is hard for you to understand so here is an activity you can do... look outside at night and look at the stars and planets and suns out there, millions and millions of them. every one of those stars are different in some way from each other.... some may be bigger or smaller, some may be brighter and some may be not so bright. even what they are made up of inside therm is a bit different from each other, this one has this much stuff in its soil and that one has a different number of things in its soil.....but every one of them are called stars. Schizophrenia, DID, OSDD its all like that everyone is different even though they met the same rules to be called that disorder. I know someone else has said this to you before but its true. the questions you are asking there is no right and wrong answer. the answers cant be found inside me or anyone else. the answers about you and your mental problems are inside you. to find them you need to work with your treatment providers. only they can tell you how schizophrenia is in you or DID is in you or OSDD is in you or any other mental disorder that you have been diagnosed with over the past few months and years. thats how any of us have found our own answers to these questions about ourselves. you work at a group home right and you live in a group home right. that means you have access to staff and treatment providers who can help you with all this. suggestion print off your posts and show them to your treatment providers.and have them help you find your answers to these questions inside of you. |

I do that. Every question that I ask on the forum I take to my Psychologist. For example: I asked her why for like one minute I was afraid that I was going to gain telekinesis from watching a movie about it. I asked why that wasn't schizophrenia and she said it's child alters and children have magical thinking sometimes. Another example: The other morning I had awoken and I was lying there in bed. All of a sudden I get the running dialogue about having a son named Gon-toon with AIDS. I only have a daughter. I watch very little tv so I know it was nothing about that. I am going to tell my Psychologist on Tues all about it. I can bet money that she is going to go on about how it is a fictive in my inner world. I am not even going to mention that to her. I am just going to see what she says. I can bet money she is going to say fictives in the inner world.

like you have posted before you work and live at a group home. my own thoughts are because you are a dissociative you are highly suggestable... like how you can watch something and then believe its happening to you. just an idea here. it could be that someone in the group home watches or listens to this show and your mind has this neat coping tool of adding thing into the mix. so maybe your alters and you have mixed into the mix the name gon toon and the episode of having AIDS. all I can tell you is that only you know why you are associating to the name gon toon and AIDS and the answer is inside you. |

Can only tell you what it use to be like after dx for us. We didn't know each other..no coconsciousness. Like walking into a room full of strangers. Couldnt understand all the words, identify voices. Some louder, clearer than others, Some there but not heard or seen at all. Over time identified them. Learned names, jobs, voices, likes, dislikes, experiences, found relationships, developed relationship. Scary, especially the amnesia stuff, but that was our normal. We wish somebody had told us then how amazing DID is. It allowed us to live. Without it we would be dead or at best institutionalized.. Whether one believes that it is a gift from God or a function of an especially gifted brain, we are awesome. We found a way to survive & thrive in spite all the efforts made by our abusers to defeat us.

That's really weird to just me a coincidence but no one here listens to a radio that I can hear because I can't sleep in noise and make them turn it down low. Perhaps it's something I heard when I was little? His name in my thoughts was Gon-too or gone-too it was hard to tell. It was so bizzare. Sometimes upon waking I just lay for a little bit before I get up. Just this flood of thoughts came running into my mind saying I have a son his name is Gon-too and he has AIDS. The thoughts (I call them that because they arent voices but like my thinking thoughts) are getting worse. The other day I was thinking about making some cheese roll ups then a thought pops in that says steak and cheese. I also was thinking I wonder if I have a bed bug on my arm(we have those here) and a thought popped on my head no ma'am. Its also like the thoughts call name. They say things like can I sit beside you (referring to myself) Sometimes the thoughts dont sound different but they are louder and it startles me or what the thoughts think are so out there it startles me for a second. I literally jump.

yes I agree it can be freaky but its known to happen with dissociates and others too that are not dissociatives where if they happen to hear something it gets mixed in.
its like in normal regular day thing someone may hear a song and then later that song plays constantly in their heads. there is actually a word for when this kind of thing happens.. Earworm. its not a real worm. it just means what someone hears sometimes gets to replaying in their heads. it makes no sense and has no real pattern other than at some point in a persons life they have over heard or listened to something or watched something and that something starts replaying in their head. theres no answers to it other than whats inside your self. my suggestion is talk with your treatment providers. they will explain whats what inside you, and just continue to follow what ever your treatment providers are saying to do, right now its not going to make a mess of sense to you other than creating confusion for you if you keep bouncing from here and psych forums doing repeated postings, all its going to do it get everyone upset and not want to try and explain things to you. members here and there have tried to explain to you that we cant answer your questions of how things are inside you, you need to contact your treatment providers and do what they say to do. I know thats not much help when you are so confused but thats just how it works when you are in therapy doing a special program like IFS therapy. |

Yeah, she just always says its my alters. I dont understand why its not schizophrenia. I wanted to see a new therapist but she charges and I dont have much money. I could do it but I would do without things I need. I dont know how to trust this Psychologist knows what she is talking about. I know she went to school and I didnt. I dont know how to trust anything. I dont know how to trust anyone. I can't even believe in God the way I want go anymore because I need absolute proof of everything and I never get that. It's not possible. Like fuzzy bear said not all doctors give the right diagnosis.
