They stated that people can have dissociated "parts" that are not seperate identities. Just a fragmentation of emotions that one feels but it is still them not a seperate person. They said that this happens in PTSD and Borderline Personality Disorder. It makes sense to me. It explains why I dont hear the chatter other people describe like commentary on daily life stuff like different opinions on what to say do etc. It doesnt explain the random chatter though. Or does it?

Hi Rive. I am new here, but I have had a DID diagnosis (polyfragmented, to be exact). Before I integrated (mostly, not fully), I had fragmented parts - some that did the laundry, some that cooked, some that showed emotion only, some that took over a body function, etc. Some of them spoke, some of them did not. It all depends on your system and why they are there to help you.

Dissociation for PTSD and BPD may be different, though I am not sure what those differences are. I would suppose that on a continuum, there is or was DDNOS (not otherwise specified, dissociative disorder) that is like DID but the person is primarily co-conscience with different parts of self, sort of like multiplicity, and maybe a blend of derealization and depersonalization. Then maybe just after DID and DDNOS, there is BPD, where the emotional fragments and depersonalization blend (or is it derealization - I forget) combine to form emotional storms, probably hypothesized by some as emotional memories without full context (sometimes even preverbal). For PTSD, it could be feeling at odds when having flashbacks or intrusive memories coupled with a lack of concentration.

Maybe the chatter in each disorder differs, but it would depend still on your system, no matter the disorder. Maybe the chatter is there to reveal something about you, a trigger in the environment, and a strength you have yet to discover about yourself.

I could be wrong. But I hope this helps you with your journey of self-discovery.
