I'd like to understand more about dissociative identity disorder from the perspective of people who either have personal experience or are just able to provide me with some insight about it. Any and all information is appreciated!

Best summary I could use.

For the OP: Just for my own curiosity, why are you looking for such insight?

Yes, it would be helpful to know if this is simple curiosity, concern related to oneself or perhaps concern for a loved one or friend.

I am diagnosed with D.I.D. I've had a few experiences with losing myself. I haven't found it to be too terribly hard to cope with. When I have events that may cause me to get disoriented I make sure I'm well grounded and mentally stable.

In a certain way having an alter is helpful, in the sense that there are two of us protecting the system. Intuition is deeper and more acute.

The most difficult aspects for me are when I dream of being split apart (it's confusing and frightening). The other, most challenging aspect of DID is the actual moment of dissociation. At that time I feel disoriented and have a sense of being "drunk", I guess is one way to put it. The sensation in my mind and body is very unpleasant, and lasts until I sleep it off.

Original person is very shy timmid introverted and awsward, of course the other personality that came from the original split is very outgoing she knows how to tell someone off and can fight back when I am too scared to. It is nice having her protect me however she does things of her own I don't like including her sexual addiction and fetishes. But even tho it's hard to deal with it's both a blessing and a curse I believe.
U can PM for more details if you'd like.
