And more importantly, how to rebuild your self esteem..was basically treated like a door mat, and instead of leaving I tolerated it for way too long..now I’m left to pick up the pieces and learn to love myself and never settle again..

Remind yourself that you're Loved and that you Matter. Try to spend some time with the people who TRULY Love You, be it Family or Friends. Your Scars will Heal with Time! Also try to dedicate some time to your Hobbies and Passion. Practice Mindfullness and Meditation. If things don't seem to improve after some time, definitely consider going to a Therapist to talk about ALL of yoru Problems! You can also try to buy some self-help Books if you can. I am sure that there are plenty of Articles and YouTube Videos on the Internet like the one that the wise and wonderful @sarahsweets has already wisely and wonderfully posted abovce! It will Take Time but I am sure you'll feel MUCH, MUCH BETTER REALLY, REALLY SOON AS WELL! Just give it Time and your Scars will Heal, OK?! Sending many safe, warm hugs to BOTH you, @Disney2019, your Family, your Friends, your Ex-Boyfriend and ALL of your Loved Ones! Keep fighting and keep rocking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, OK?!

In the past it helped me to focus on a hobby on weekends such as hiking or train for a 5 K race or try learning something new with going to weekly art lessons.

Fortunately, you live in the culture capital of the galaxy. If you can't find something to do in Gotham, there is a real problem. Go to the Met, or MOMA, or the Frick, or the Whitney--or all of them. Go to the opera or symphony or a play or two or the ballet. Check out some jazz or whatever genre you dig. Go on an architecture tour. Go to a sporting event. Start walking or running or cycling. Join a reading group... Paint or blow glass.

You get the idea. There is probably more to do in New York City than anywhere else on earth (forgetting about the outdoors, like climbing and stuff). Dive in. Make yourself do stuff. Make yourself get out of the house. Force yourself to. P_eople in little towns across the US would kill for the opportunities you have. Take advantage of that. That's what I have done and it has largely worked.
